“Mixed Reviews... both good and bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2010

When we arrived, we were put into a free upgrade... however, after only one night, we had to move to another room. Very inconvenient!!! The rest of the stay was okay except for very noisy kids in the pool.

Then the morning of our departure, we discovered our rental car was vantalized.. this resulted in a $575 charge by the rental car firm to repair.

So... as I state bad and good...

My husband and I are Hilton Honors members and stayed on points for this trip. We had 3 days at the Hilton Walt Disney World in Orlando and wanted to have a few leisurely days at the beach. It was a toss up between Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach, but after reading numerous reviews on Tripadvisor, we settled on this location. What a great hotel and staff! We were upgraded at check in to a suite,( one of the many benefits of Hilton Honors membership!) it was roomy and had a wonderful view. We had requested a room with a full balcony and a frig, but a quick phone call to the front desk and our refrigerator was immediately brought up to our room by housekeeping. We had a walk out balcony which was okay; ( the newer building have the full, sit down balconies) as we really spent very little time in our room. The pool had the most comfy lounge chairs I have ever used! The managers reception on the night we arrived was excellent and all the wait staff at the hotel resturant, bar and tiki were friendly and helpful. As stated in other reviews, there is a reef right off the beach making swimming dicey. The beach was clean and not at all crowded. It was a wonderful vacation stay and we would return again!

I want to thank you very much for your review of our property. As you stated, we are very close to Disney and Orlando as a whole, so splitting up a vacation between the attractions in Orlando and time at the beautiful beaches here in Melbourne is a fantastic way to spend some time. As I read every review of our property, I wanted to take this time to clarify the "underwater reef" just to the north of our beach as many have commented on. There is an exposed limestone reef just to the north of our beachfront. It only becomes exposed during low tide, and we place the warnings there in order to educate guests to be careful. The water is perfectly safe to swim in, and when the tide is low and the reef is exposed, simply move a little south of the reef and there is no danger of coming in contact with the reef.

I do hope this clears up any misnomers about the beaches here in Melbourne, particularly at our property. We hope to see you soon.

We stayed for a week at this Hilton. The pool area is nice and has a bar right there so you can have a cocktail by the pool. Just a short flight of steps down and you are on the beach. The water was great, but there is a huge sign that says UNDERWATER REEF BEWARE. No one could really tell us too much about that, so we were careful to not make contact with it. The restaurant is good, but pricey for dinner. I didn't think it was as good as what we paid. You can get a more casual menu by the pool, and that was better. We had a very nice time at this hotel. It was very low key during the week, but got a little busier on the weekend. Our only complaint was that the pool area constantly had people at it who were not staying at the hotel. It wasn't a big deal during the week, but it was a pain on the weekend when we couldn't get a chair by the pool. One of the front desk employees said it was too much trouble to continually be asking non-hotel guests to leave. I wish that they would have gone through the trouble so that we could have enjoyed the pool on our last day. Overall, it's a nice place and we would likely return.

Thank you so much for your comments regarding your stay here at the Hilton Melbourne Beach. We strive to make every experience a memorable one and it sounds like we met with your expectations. In reference to the local crowd that does come to our bar on the weekends, we offer local entertainment that has a pretty strong local following on the weekends, so we welcome our local patrons to come and enjoy our atmosphere. I am sorry that this caused an incovenience for you, but we will take your comments and see if there is a way to keep our lounge chairs for our overnight guests exclusively. But, again, thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again soon.

We stayed here for the fourth of July and it was so nice we decided to stay another night. I would recommend asking for a room on an upper floor to get a fantastic view. The ocean front rooms aren't really ocean front since the hotel sits at an angle. This hotel is fantastic in that they don't nickle dime you for each amenity. There is free parking, pool towels and use of the facilities, and complimentary newspapers and coffee in the lobby. The staff was very helpful and very friendly--even when my husband could not find his keys when checking out. I would definitely recommend.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Miami and drove from Orlando airport. Our room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable (a real plus). The hotel restaurant proved to be average both in food and service, but after a full days journey we were not at our best. Our room had an oceanfront room and small balcony which was great. The beach is accessed easily from te grounds and the pool area was really nice. We would have liked to spend some time in the Tiki bar outside but there was a large corporate party going on and so we just went on th beach.

We really enjoyed our trip to Melbourne Beach. The beach is beautiful, clean, and not crowded. The hotel was nice. The rooms were clean and the beds slept great. Our room was on the 9th floor with a wonderful view of the ocean. It would have been nice to have a little bigger balcony so you could sit outside on it.The other building had regular balconies and I think I would have preferred one of those rooms next time. The staff were polite and helpful. We had lunch on the weekend outside by the pool. Hats off to the chef. My daughter said his BBQ ribs rocked. The prices for weekend outdoor specials were excellent. I would highly recommend it. The indoor bar and restaurant are very nice. The enitire back is glass so you can see outside. The pool was small but clean. The pool chair cushions could use a little cleaning but considering they are outside they really weren't to bad. We loved the location because we could be on a quiet beach or take a short drive to Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center ( which we did). We had a great time and definately would go back.

The end junior suites at the north tower had oceanfront balconies, although on the 3rd floor up, they are only standing room. Regular rooms have balconies with seating. The Junior suite had a nice breakfast nook that overlooked the ocean. Fron our room on the 3rd floor, the whine of the hot tub pump (turned on around 7:30am each morning) was unbearable and we did not open the doors after that time. The desk staff was very friendly, aside from one person, but of course that was who we spoke with on the phone and then checked in with. Bellstaff is only available during limited hours, and I was told "well, there are bellcarts". She was abrupt and unhelpful with inquiries about family friendly services or suggestions. The Vacation Station and Library is no longer offered although the clerk noted that there were pay per view options.

Aside from the reception and unhelpful phone conversation, there was actually nightly opportunities to view sea turtles laying eggs on the beach, as well as seeing them swim on the reef. The gift shop has postcards and stamps, the umbrellas and chairs are rented at the beach ($8 for a chair, $12 for an umbrella, $10 for a boogie board). Walmart is literally within walking distance with $12 boards and goggles, although the gift shop had them at only one dollar more. We headed to Cocoa Beach to Ron Jons for long sleeved rashguard with SPF 50+ which was great for kids at the beach. Other local surf shops may offer the same thing. There is a submerged limestone reef which can hurt your toes, but the benefit is seeing the sea turtles once you are up on it, and manatees that swam by. We saw dolphins in the distance in the early morning. We did meet other families there with children to make beach friends with, but not a great number. This seems to be mostly a business hotel on the ocean which picks up weddings on the weekends.

Great places to eat: Bizzaros Pizza in Historic Melbourne, The Blueberry Muffin on A1A was a great breakfast and we enjoyed Big Island Burrito. Unspectacularly there was Friendly's with a 1.99 kids meals on Wednesdays, which was a big hit with the kids due to M&M pancakes.

We did venture directly across the street to the Holy Name thrift store and picked up several games for the room and beach toys for 10 cents each to $2 for the games. We left them at the hotel.
