This was my first stay at a Bed & Breakfast. My husband and I weren't sure if we would like it, but the Old Pineapple Inn came highly recommended. It was less than two hours to drive from our house, and we went for the weekend. The Inn is located in an older (for FL) neighborhood. There were a lot of older houses- turn of the century. A few houses are not kept up as well, but it seemed pretty safe.
The Inn is absolutely adorable from the street. It is light lavendar in color, and has huge, old trees with lots of shade. There is a wrap-around porch with chairs and a swing. Inside, it's just as cute! The owners/ innkeepers have decorated it nicely. There is lots of wallpaper and antique furniture. It is their home as well as an inn, so there are lots of their family photos around.
Bob and Celeste, the owners, are very nice. Celeste is a fabulous cook. Each morning, we were treated to a delicous breakfast with juice, coffee, fresh fruit and a hot main dish. They will give you your privacy when you want it, or they'll sit and chat as long as you'd like. They are full of information on the house, the neighborhood, and the city of Melbourne.
We stayed in the Isabelle Gleason room, which is decorated in blue and yellow. There is a photo on their website, and it is quite accurate. The king-sized bed was very comfortable. The room also has its own window-based air-conditioner, but the house does have central a/c. The room was spotless, and filled with wicker furniture. The bathroom was also immaculate, and small, but functional.
There are only three guest rooms in the main house, but there is a "guest house" next door which can be rented, too. It is a large two-story house with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It even has an updated kitchen and a swimming pool. It would be a great place to stay with a family.
