My wife and I stayed at Eagles Nest on Marco Island from September 18th to the 24th, having traded our Marriott Grande Vista Orlando Fl unit. Eagles Nest is managed by Hilton, although not owned by Hilton. Upon arrival check-in went very smoothly and the staff was friendly. Our Unit was number 806 and had an excellent view of the beach. To us the best feature of Eagles Nest is that it is a quick walk from the tower to the beach, which was very clean and huge. The water is kid friendly, with no big waves and the water get deeper quite gradually. On the beach in front of the resort are beach chairs and umbrellas. Two lounge chairs and an umbrella are $20/day or $100 for the week.
September is the off season on Marco, which we loved. No rush to get to the pool or beach to get a spot and there was never a wait to get into a restaurant for dinner. However, most of the stores closed early. Also, the grocery stores close by 9:00, which we are not used to.
We did feel that the building, the grounds and the units are a bit dated. For example, the furniture in our unit was banged up quite a bit and the wooden section of the pool deck was split and splintered. Wireless internet is offered, but we could not access it in the room. I was informed that the best reception would be in the lobby or the mezzanine. It was not just my computer, as most nights when I went to check email or go on-line there were always other guests doing the same thing. The mezzanine did have plenty of comfortable chairs.
There is no restaurant on site at Eagles Nest. Next door is a Marriott Hotel. We ate dinner there one night at the beachside café. The food was expensive and just ok, but the view of the sunset was great. We also walked over there a couple of times during our week to get a frozen strawberry daiquiri. Interestingly, Eagles Nest does not have a liquor license, so they cannot sell drinks. However, they are allowed to give drinks free. Several days there were drink specials by the pool, but it may not be a drink you like, and if so you were out of luck. They also offered lunch specials every day. We were in Naples two nights for dinner (30 minutes by car) and had dinner at Tommy Bahamas and Handsome Harry’s. Both places are on Third and Thirteenth Streets and both meals were very good.
One bit of confusion. We had a late flight on check out day, so we wanted to put our bags in our rental car and use the pool and facilities until it was time to go to the airport. The night before, I asked at the front desk about a locker room or shower facilities to use. I was told that we could use the showers by the pool, which are not private and there is no place to change, and the shower only runs for a second or two before shutting off. This did not seem correct to us, so the next day I asked someone different, and was told that there were facilities to use off of the exercise room and that they would give us clean towels to use when we were ready. Much better answer!
All in all we had a very nice, relaxing week at Eagles Nest and would return and recommend it to others. The value here is location!
