“a big disappointment based on how the tour is promoted”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

I chose to book the Eco-tour because the company says this tour will be "naturalist led." Every year I try to find an interesting and educational experience for my grandchildren and daughter when they visit such as a tours at Tigertial Beach,Shark Valley and the Dolphin Explorer. Sadly this tour did not fit that criteria. Our guide was pleasant enough, but based on other experiences where tours were naturalist led, this tour just didn't hold up.

Marco Island is a very popular destination for tourists, especially at spring break. During this time, there is only one area that we can operate a shore launched kayak tour without encountering Marco's wildlife ... jet skies, air boats, party boats, fishing craft, water skiers, etc. The place that we operate during spring break minimizes these encounters, but unfortunately the true wildlife can be skittish then. As such, the only authentic Eco Tour that we can truly conduct and the only on that we advertise, as such, is the Boat Assisted Kayak Eco Tour. On this tour, we have six very stable kayaks nestled in the bow of a comfortable transport boat that we use to get deep into the wilderness and away from the hustle of Marco Island. It is only then that we deploy the kayaks to get close to the flora and fauna. All along the way, in the kayaks and on the way back, your naturalist guide conveys a plethora of information on the ecosystems, ecology, history and culture of the area. For a TRUE Kayak Eco Tour, that launches from shore and does use a transport boat, we recommend Everglades Area Tours.

“Awesome Time. Very worthwhile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014 via mobile

Our trip was fantastic. Our guide, Jeff, really knew the his stuff. He's a local and it showed. He knows the water and wildlife very well. I told him he even made birds interesting . We did see a bald eagle in flight, several paltry nests and even a few chicks. Jeff had a keen eye for spotting wildlife. We had the good fortune to also see a dolphin several times. He provided binoculars that the group shared. It might not be
a bad idea to bring your own.

He paddled with the group and provided commentary about the area we were in. He guided us to a beach and we spent time on shore while he identified shells and crabs for us.

This was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had.

“Off the beaten path fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014 via mobile

Captain Ed provided a great tour of an entirely different view of Marco Island! It was a great trip off the beaten path to see native Florida wildlife. Capt Ed was extremely knowledgeable about the area, which helped immensely. While I wish we could have seen manatees or dolphins, nature didn't come through. That's the only reason for 4 Stars instead of 5 on the sights.

“Pleasant trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014 via mobile

We had a pleasant trip on the water. The boys enjoyed being in the kayaks. Not sure if there is much difference between the tours they offer but we did not have much wildlife on hours. It essentially was a couple hours on the water. Not much wildlife to be seen.

“Fabulous Day on the Water!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

We had a spectacular day out touring dolphins and the everglades. He (the guide - forget his name - sorry!) did ask what our interest was... birds, dolphins, etc... My daughter loves dolphins so he chose to spend time with them. They played behind his boat and he was skilled enough to get them to ride his boat wake. It was great! We were fortunate enough to have the boat and tour guide to ourselves. He was extremely knowledgeable as he was a retired game warden and was very familiar with the waters and wildlife. I would definitely recommend this company for a great and valuable experience.
