“totally overpriced”

Cafe de Marco

Jul 10, 2008

Went there a couple of months ago & after reading the review where the family was treated like trash I decided to write one as well. We also had a large group that spent alot of money, this restaraunt is not cheap, we were there until about 9:30 & were completely rushed out of there, not because they needed the table but because they wanted to go home. We were finishing our wine & had to leave it because they were being rude. Some of the food was good but not worth the price & not worth being rushed out of a restaraunt after paying the bill by rude employees.

I will say the food was suitable to eat. However, the service was revolting. Having never been to Macro Island before My in laws who winter there every February suggested Café de Marco from others word of mouth. My partner and I along with mother in law, two aunts and one cousin and sister in law a total of seven made reservations at Five-thirty as there were no other times available. We arrived on time and asked to be seated. We were brought over to a round top table made for five people at most and sat tightly together. Having never met some members of the family this kept it very close together to really get to know each other. When the waiter arrived we placed out drink order and that arrived in due time. The immediate selling began and we asked for a couple appetizers as we wanted to enjoy our dinner and conversation. Specials were recited as if from a cue card. The prices and descriptions did not match what was on the special boards which was easily readable from my seat. Appetizers arrive and were decent Having even though I thought Oyster Rockefeller had a Hollandaise based sauce not a cheese sauce. Having ordered our entrees after the appetizers were delivered the salad course was quickly served before the appetizer course was finished or cleared. Know mind you we all wanted a leisurely dinner but this began to worry us as the restaurant was finally starting to fill up. Such prompt service, yet the entrees then took Forty-five minutes after the salad course to arrive close to seven o’clock. Entrees arrive and were fairly well presented and again were edible but not to the raves others write of or what was expected from others recommendation. This is were the dining experience complete fell apart. By Half past seven we were mostly done with dinner which was on average a quick time considering the amount of people and our combined age. Meals were cleared and dessert presented. We ordered dessert, coffee and espresso, we shared as most people do and the check was delivered. We presented three cards, they were picked up and returned in haste. Before leaving the ladies at the table needed to use the restrooms and being that the facilities were so far away and tiny they went one at a time. It was during this time that the table vultures began hovering. Every single item was removed from the table, salt, pepper, napkins, water glasses… As my mother in law was being escorted to the facilities the waiter asked if there was anything else we need in an exasperated expression. I said’ “No we are just waiting for everyone to get back together so we can leave. At this point is when I noticed a middle-aged woman in a dress two sizes too small and that had been the cashier earlier when I walked through restaurant. Her hovering was beyond discrete craning her head to see if they could probably even take the table cloth. I motioned to her and this is when she approached and asked if we were ready to leave and I again said we are waiting for my mother in law to return and we would be on our way. Her replay to this was, “Can we(meaning the staff or herself) tell them to meet us in the parking lot. My eyes bugged out of my head so far that the aunt quickly turned to her and said we will be on our way shortly. Upon the return of the rest of the party we left. While assembling the member of our party into the cars I returned to the restaurant to speak with the manager. Unable to locate the manager, the same person in red at the cashier stand saw me and the rest of the employees scrambled. I said to her how offended I was that they picked up the checks and were through with us and had the audacity to even think of telling my mother in law to meet us in the parking lot. Her come back with was how rude I was to take up their table for so long when they had reservations for another table of seven people at Eight o’clock. How rude of me and my family to spend $500.00 with their restaurant and tip the server close to $80.00? This response of how we were taking up their space and time when there was clearly through out the entire night a rectangular table for eight set up in the middle of the interior of the restaurant empty all night.

Needless to say next February we will find a restaurant with true style and grace.

Be forewarned if you enjoy dining and conversation go some place else.

“Great Seafood and Service”

We had he pleasure of dinner at Cafe de Marco the last week of February, 2008. Highly recommend the place for the quality of the food and the service. It is easy to see why most of the reviews are positive for this restaurant. First of all, the service was excellent. Our waiter was very professional and great at observing and getting us what we needed without constant interruption -- a real talent. And the Sea Bass, Grouper, Talapia dishes we had were excellent -- recommend the blacked preparation if you like it spicy. Also, the clam chowder was above average. Highly recommend the place for the quality of the food and the service. Best I have eaten at in a long time.
