“Where's the beach?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

I don't think I have ever stayed at a place with a weirder layout than this resort. I can't imagine why they designed the buildings the way they did. It seems they forgot the fact that there is an ocean out there and people want to see it. Unless you are on the top floors you wont see a thing and even then you have to look over buildings to see the ocean front. The condo I was in was on the 5th floor and it had no view of anything. The condo is cramped and so poorly lit I felt like I was living in the dark. No sun comes into the 5th floor condos and there are no screens on the doors so you can't even hear the ocean for fear of a lizard will come in. It has some nice features but they are all in the wrong place. The long dark walk to the beach that starts at the parking ramp and goes around the restaurant is a long haul for people with kids or those who have trouble walking. It's a shame with such nice ocean front that the place was so poorly designed. My advice is keep looking and find something with a view and a pool by the ocean.

Room Tip: Only stay on the top floors if you want a view.

“Great little secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

We stayed here 2 yrs ago and loved loved it. It is peaceful and very private. You can walk almost across the street to go eat pick up a few beach items etc.We stayed in the first floor 1 bedroom which was so nice because you basically get a little grassy backyard and can continue out onto the beach. As our family grew we did not stay there again...but will go back again for a couples get away.

Room Tip: first floor towards the south end! great back yard.

“All the rooms have great views of the Gulf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Very nice and quite hotel. Would recommend to any body. The service was very good. Room service was fast. Rooms clean. We were upgraded to a suite. The hotel is located back a little further than the other hotels because they have a wedding facility and restaurant near the beach. It is a short walk past two bars to get to the beach. Nice warm pool.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

“Not a Repeater”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

This was our first trip to the other side of Florida. We moved to the Atlantic side several months ago, and wanted to see the Gulf. The hotel was fine. That's it - just fine, not spectacular (considering the cost). We picked it because it came up clean on bedbugregistry.com. We were first given a one bedroom suite, but it was so tiny and so overstuffed with massive furniture that we did not envision ourselves spending four days in it. The bathroom was miniscule. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite, and that was perfect. This really should be the size of a one bedroom suite (and is, at many hotels I have stayed at). We were on the 11th floor, and as mentioned by previous reviews, the higher floor, the better. But if you are on your balcony, and your neighbor is smoking a stinking cigar, the pleasure of sitting on the balcony is definitely non-existent.

The beach was strewn with shells and was very hard, not soft sand. The shells were mostly inhabited by their marine life, and thus uncollectable. We did find a few of the prized sand dollars and empty conchs, but after two days on the table on our balcony, they started to smell terribly and we had to throw them out. Not like the shells on the Atlantic, which are buffeted and cleaned by the rough waters. The Gulf is mostly limp. The pool was nice, but the heater was broken on our first day and the water was icy, which somehow escaped the maintenance crew. I mean, really? The beach lounge area was also acceptable, but as at the pool, it is filled - like every place these days - with people yakking on the phone, smoking cigars, and being just insufferable. And no, I was not impressed with the attendants.

Altogether not a repeater. Go to Marco Island to attend a convention, if you must, but for a vacation destination, stay on the East coast.

The highlight of our stay were the dinners (and breakfasts) at Sale e Pepe. More on that at my restaurant review.

Room Tip: Get a room on the South side, and on a high floor. Try to get upgraded to a 2 BR suite.

“Wonderful surprize”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We booked with my husbands points from United. We had a wonderful suite with a kitchen, balcony and front gulf view. The service was amazing. Umbrellas, lounge chair, beach towels and lemon flavored water are all provided at no cost.

The next day we moved to the Marriott for a room using my points. Definitely would have preferred to stay at Marco Beach Ocean Resort for another night instead!
