This is a quiet "inn" in an older part of Marco Island. If you are looking for a fancy resort with all the amenities, this is not your place. The towels and other amenities are 3 Star not 5 Star. They provide soap and shampoo. No shoe polish, hand lotion, etc. There was a hair dryer but no makeup mirror. However, the one bedroom suite we had was very spacious and wonderfully quiet. The living area had a small kitchen, round dining table, and living room area with TV and screened in porch. The bedroom had a large king-sized bed next to the bathroom. Cooking would have been a huge challenge because there are very few utensils and fewer kitchen implements, such as knives, corkscrew, peeler etc. So don't expect to do much in the culinary area. On the other hand, we were able to fix tea and fruit for breakfast and, by bringing a corkscrew and going to the local stores, enjoy appetizers and wine before we went out to dinner. Likewise, the housekeeping was not the same as at a major resort. We had to check in around 4:30 (instead of 3) because of the shortage of help (the management apologized profusely) and the next day, housekeeping arrived around 5:00 pm and, after a 10 Minute sweep of the place, left us in quiet. But, when we asked to checkout around 2:30 instead of the formal checkout time on our final day, they were able to accomodate us. Also, to our supreme surprice, we left a reasonably generous tip in a glass every day on the kitchen counter and they never took it!! In short, this was a very good bargain if you are not looking for resort ambiance and amenities. It is very quiet. The restaurant is terrific (Be SURE to make reservations!!). There are other local restaurants within walking distance. Overall, in comparison to other places we have been, this is a 3 star. If you are looking for a quiet place with a very nice restaurant at a very reasonable price where you don't need a lot of amenities, shops, beautiful people and entertainment, we would recommend this inn.

“Be Your Own Hotel”

Olde Marco Island Inn and Suites

Olde Marco Inn appears to be a residential condominum whose owners do not live there full time and rent out their units. Resort administration and "amenities" are handled by what probably is a property management company. You can be certain of this when there is an ad for buying a unit in your room.

Being a collection of residences in Marco Island, all of the units start out with the same basics. However, the units can vary. Our unit appeared to have a full kitchen but once we were in, we found it had neither a dishwasher nor a stove. That probably explains the absense of cooking utencils! Not even a bowl to put in the microwave. There were only a few dishes and no bowls except some very small ones that might have held a scoop of ice cream.

On checking in we found the reservation had the wrong rate. We were given a new copy of the revised reservation which still had the wrong rate on it but told it would be corrected at checkout (it was). We went to check out the day before our departure as we had an early flight. The staff was challenged by how to do this without locking us of the room but they did manage to get it right.

In the bathroom, we had shampoo and soap provided only on the first day of our stay, none afterward. One side of the towel bar bracket had come off the wall. We called the front desk who said it would be fixed the following day. Instead, it was removed and the pieces left on the counter. Hence the housekeepers just piled the towels on the bath counter and even though we left 1/2 the counter clear, they still moved some of personal stuff unnecessarily.

As for the housekeeping, they came every day. Without a dishwasher the housekeeper is doing the dishes however we did rewash some of the dishes because they didn't look really clean.

There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign to hang out on the door. Despite having the deadbolt thrown in the electronic lock system, housekeeping was still able to enter our room. And they did so, on one occasion at 9AM without even a knock on the door. Being at a resort for a vacation, we had taken the opportunity to sleep in and were not dressed for visitors. The housekeeper then came back a few minutes later to explain she had been told the room was empty.

We did not use the pool nor were we made aware of any of the other amenities other than the sailboat trip. We had to ask where to find the fitness center that we had seen on the web site. Once told how to find it, tt is dingy, dirty and has old equipment that looks very tired and in some cases in need of repair. This is in the building that also has the Old Marco Shoppes - none of it really looks terribly inviting.

So, if you're going to stay here -- and you can't beat the value, considering the space -- I would advise you be prepared to be your own hotel staff. After all, you are really a short-term condo rental more than being in a hotel. Bring your own "Do Not Disturb" sign and perhaps even one of those alarms that hangs on the door and goes off when its opened. If having a full working kitchen is important to you then, when making a reservation, get a committment for a specific room and confirm from someone standing in the room that it has a stove, cooking utencils and the dishes that you'll need or be prepared to bring or buy your own. Same goes for the dishwasher if you think you'll have a lot of dirty dishes. There's plenty of shopping for housewares nearby on Marco Island (Publix, right at the corner of Collier and Bald Eagle - the first main intersection from the Inn). After all, snowbird are always coming and going on Marco Island - the busiest day being the 2nd of the month as the new 'monthly' renters stock up.

“A very nice week at the Olde Marco”

Olde Marco Island Inn and Suites

Jan 27, 2007

My wife and I have just returned from a most pleasant week at the Olde Marco Inn. No, the place is not perfect, but it is much cheaper, more peaceful and in a more interesting area (residential) than the big hotels and condos on the beach.

We had a 2 bedroom on the 4th floor. It was very comfortable and quiet (except for some AM trash trucks) and had wonderful room to spread out. The kitchen had no pots and pans, but it was perfectly adequate for our needs. It allowed us to make our own breakfasts and lunches on most days. The on-site restaurant is quite good. They have early bird specials until 6 PM, and their regular menu is excellent. We stuck with fish dishes and were very pleased. The Cafe de Marco, right next door, comes highly recommended but did not impress us as much. The Snook Inn, an easy walk, will serve you a decent fish dinner just a few feet from the water. In addition, there is a nice cafe, the Chef's Express, tucked into the tiny onsite shopping area.
The pool was very appealing. It is rectangular, which allows for good lap swimming, the temperature is perfect, and it was nearly deserted when we were there.

Now for some negatives, most of which are easily outweighed by the positives:
Housekeeping was very inconsistent. Someone came every day (usually at a different time), but one day a wet towel was left behind, on another an empty kleenex box was not replaced, etc. We left the dishwasher full of clean dishes once, only to return and find that our dirty breakfast dishes had been added to it. The next day, the DW was run on full cycle with only 2 dishes and 2 cups. The beds were made, but other things were sort of hit or miss. There did not seem to be any real supervision or oversight of the housekeepers.
The same goes for the grounds and outside areas. A broken beer bottle languished for several days in a parking space, and our stairwell, which we used instead of the elevator, had an empty Burger King bag and cup in it for three days, until I pointed it out to a young man wandering the grounds.

The pool has a sign pointing to restrooms which leads to nowhere. Every poolside chair needs some webbing. The towels provided for the pool are indeed just bath towels, but you can take extras.

Nevertheless, if you do not need a huge lobby or to walk to the beach, the Olde Marco Inn is a real find. And do not pass up the free boat ride on the Raven. Captain Sandy is real nice, and the beach is beautiful, for shelling, walking and swimming.

“Had a great Thanksgiving week”

Our family of 6, just returned from spending Thanksgiving week in Unit #412. Our 2 BR condo was tropically decorated, with a gulf view & huge screened balcony. Since this property does not have beach access, they offered a free catamaran outing to a private island 4 days a week, the 6 of us took advantage of this private tour & we loved it! Their pool was too cold & a little dirty for our taste. However, we visited Tigertail Beach & watched sunsets there, as well. When we stay in condos, we prefer to cook some meals in, however, the kitchen was not very well appointed. When we return to this property, we will bring a few more kitchen necessities with us. We did have daily maid service, which is not always the case, when you chose a condo. We look forward to returning to this property again.
