We stayed at the Marriot in April 2006. We understood it was Spring Break and expected it to be crowded. Much to our dismay, it was more than crowded; the hotel simply could not handle the number of guests. We paid Four Season’s prices for Motel 8 service. It was a terrible Marriot experience.

Our main issue was the beach equipment. At 87 degrees and a cloudless sky access to an umbrella was essential. On day one at 8am we stood in-line for 1 hour and 30 minutes to reserve: four rusty metal and vinyl beach chairs, four worn-out thin towels and one flimsy umbrella – all for the price of $12.95. I can’t believe the Marriot charged me for waiting in-line over an hour on a vacation!

Worried that our family would have to wait each morning, I inquired about a palapa – a larger permanent thatched roof umbrella. These beauties were $26.95 a day and included four bottles of semi-cold water. The first available palapa was on our vacation day three, which we reserved. As for vacation day two, we were put on the Palapa waiting list. We would have liked to have sat at pool for free but every chair was taken. Plus, with 50 plus kids in the pools, the sanitation issue crossed our minds.

Bottom line, the beach was managed improperly. The Marriot controlled the distribution of their umbrellas and chairs so that they could ensure the collection of their money. This system wasted our precious family time and caused great irritation. We travel frequently and this is the only hotel that coveted their chairs. All other resorts we’ve stayed at set-up their chairs and umbrella’s before the guests awake. No waiting, no fees.

Instead, below is a list of our other disappointments:
•None smoking room smelled like smoke.
•Balconies were rusty and had peeling paint
•Plastic balcony chairs (available at Home Depot for $5 a piece)
•In room internet $12.95 per day (wireless is free now in many places!)
•Daily fee to use the Spa facilities did not include the use of the pool

Needless to say we will not be returning to the Marriot Marco Island Spa and Resort again!

We had such a great time at this place! We are Marriott time share owners and at the last minute used our points to stay here, after reviewing the postings on Trip Advisor. It far exceeded our expectations. We wanted to have a week at a nice, upscale, but not stuffy resort where we could just enjoy our time together as a family, and that is exactly what we did.

The service was outstanding, the rooms spacious and clean, and our view of the pool/beach was just beautiful. There are many different restaurants to choose from - the kids especially loved the breakfast buffet and kids under six are free, and most of the time, the waitstaff didn't even bother charging for my six year old son. There is so much for the kids to do - for $30 a day, kids can spend their day with the Tiki Tribe where they can do arts and crafts (but beware - this can be an extra $20 for a little ceramic craft or beaded necklace). There were tons of kids there, and yes, the pool could get crowded and loud, but it is the sound of kids having the time of their lives! And what is great, is the resort offers another large sized pool for adults, and it is much quieter there. My 2 , 3, and 6 year olds loved the kiddie sprinklers and the water slide, which never had a long line.

There are plenty of options for food - a bar/lounge, a little coffee shop if you want to pick up danishes on the go, two sit-down restaurants, and Quinn's - which is a great little restaurant off the beach with live entertainment every night. There is also a less expensive pizza place and a great poolside tiki bar.

I would highly recommend this resort, especially for families with children. It seemed that alot of teenagers were enjoying themselves as well. Lots to do on the beach - volleyball, parasailing, jet-skiing, etc.

There is alot of road work going on outside the resort, but it is being done by county, and has nothing to do with Marriott. Once you are in the resort, it makes absolutely no difference! We really had a great time!

Our family of four has stayed at the the Marco Island Marriott on three occasions in recent months and had an outstanding experience each time. The resort offers just about everything you could ask for: great pools, gorgeous beach, spa, health club and nicely-appointed rooms. Virtually every room has an ocean view, which is a great bonus. The rooms also have a fridge, so stock up at the nearby Publix or Winn-Dixie on your way in. The coffee vendor near the lobby is also a plus.

The hotel definitely fills up "in season". When we were there in October, however, we had the place practically to ourselves.
My only complaint about Marco Island is that there are limited dining options and not much to do off-property. Not an issue if you're only there for a few days, but I might get antsy on Marco for a week.

Got back from this resort last week, having stayed thru Easter.Very interesting to read the two previous reviews.Firstly let me say that this is an excellent facillity ,which is very well presented in a great location. The hotel is large and modern and our room was spotlessly clean. The food was good and the staff were very helpfull.
I did not enjoy our stay for a couple of reasons, but mainly this. I believe we were staying at "high season" and in my opinion the hotel is squeezing in too many people. The pool area was like Grand Central Station at rush hour and unless you were on the beach at sunrise forget about peace and quiet. We were packed together as close as they could get the loungers in and still leave space to let the guests walk to them.Everyone is trying to take photos, deal with children, put on lotion and all at the same time at the tops of their voices. This really wasnt the kind of "relaxation " i was looking for.
There was a wait for most things, restraunts, drinks, towels , and room service.I think that is why they had someone standing at the top of the stairs to the restraunts asking people if they were hotel guests. This happened to a guy in front of me and when he replied that he had come in for lunch he was told to forget it.No explanation just " not today ,now move along". He rightly replied that if the hotel wasnt taking lunch visitors they should make that clear to the guys doing the valet parking who had just taken his money.
I seen the same guy later on the beach and told him he had been treated pretty shabily, and that i assumed it was because the hotel was full. He laughed it off saying he was local [Naples]and had just come down to take his kids jestsking. He did however save my vacation by advising me to forget about Marco and go up to Sannibel or Captiva Islands. He was so right, beautifull quiet beaches with tons of space and no sound but the waves. We went snorkelling and found some amazing shells, and i spent the rest of my vacation driving up there most mornings.
After reading the reviews i guess it would have worked for some people, just not everyone. If you want to relax on a quiet beach, read a book go for a walk etc. Then dont go here in high season. If you want to throw balls about and like vibrant noisy activity with big crowds this is the place for you.

Checked the trip advisor site before going to Marco and I have to stay that the hotel lived up to all our expectations. Our 2 kids had the best vacation by far with the safe beach environment a must for any families with small kids. I really have nothing to complain about with this hotel and am already looking forward to going back next year! Nothing was a problem for the staff and you can tell this complex is run by a very professional management team. The spa facility was awesome and so was the overall quality of the food. They also have some great excursions from the beach at reasonable prices. Finally a quick note on the clientele-this resort attracts a great bunch of guests mostly from the USA and one or two of us Brits sprinkled about too. The combination of a fantastic hotel and fun loving guests made our Easter break unforgettable. I would suggest that more Brits try this resort out instead of flying the opposite direction to the top hotels in Dubai-it has a special quality. We travelled MaxJet to NY which is a new all business airline (great rates!!) spending 2 days in Manhatton travelling on to Fort Meyers with JetBlue with the transfer in a cab being 45 mins.......It was interesting to see 3 other families using the new Maxjet flights. They all seemed very happy campers on the flight home from the Marriot!!
