The experience of revisiting a hotel, property or restaurant where one has had an outstanding experience has always been intriguing. More often than not, the second visit turns out to be somewhat of a disappointment. Like movie sequels, having an extraordinary second visit is rare and unforgettable, like Le Bernadin in New York, Café du Port in Monaco, Los Galayos in Madrid, Korfez in Istanbul. Hilton Marco Island comes close, very close this time.
This was actually our third pilgrimage to Hilton Marco Island. The first two visits, in 2014 and 2015, were memorable, and responsible for the February 2015 review.
Everything is still tops. The staff is very friendly and anticipates the guests' needs and expectations. The physical plant is very well maintained, clean and attractive. The rooms are well kept, spacious and comfortable. We did not have to ask for bathrobes; they were there for us. A very comprehensive breakfast is offered every day. The pool area and beach are superior. We had, really, no substantial observations.
Except... Well, as much as we enjoyed our stay, we felt that the Hilton Marco Island felt a little... tired. The Friday night seafood buffet was as good as before, but somehow lacked sparkle. The breakfast room seemed dated. Maybe there was nothing new for us to discover. Maybe the property has felt the passage of time and needs rejuvenation.
We are told that Hilton Marco Island is due for a comprehensive renovation in the near future and we will not recognize it when it is done. We are ready to go back. It is one of the loveliest properties we have visited, and it is highly recommended. It is expensive, but certainly worth the experience.
