“Sand dollars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

Perfect place to hunt for sand dollars during low tide. Make sure you get there plenty early. We were able to find 4, which made my son super happy. The beach itself is nice and shallow for quite away. Perfect for kids. Lots of shells to look at.

“Lovely beach with plenty to do - but not annoyingly crazy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

We visited Tigertail beach just before the (presumed) Spring Break craziness, and found it relaxing - not quiet, but without the rowdy crowds that can ruin a nice, hot day. The beach is soft, white sand, plenty of shells, and across the lagoon you can find fiddler crabs and another long stretch of beach that can be a great source of conch and other interesting shell varieties.
There is a fee of $8 to park for the day, but the car park is fairly large, and, contrary to what some people have said, it isn't a massive walk to the beach. It's around 5 mins... unless you rarely use your legs! Perhaps people generally walk slower in the US...
The gregarious Tony and his crew man the beach hut from which you can hire kayaks (good fun & exercise), paddleboards and various craft to take out on the water. There is also a café which serves beach food (burgers and fries particularly tasty, and some of the best we had in the US).
Further down the coast there are some large hotels, but despite this Tigertail was spacious and the atmosphere easygoing and welcoming. It was by far the best beach experience we had in Florida. If you want a more frenetic, party atmosphere then by all means look elsewhere, but if you want to enjoy your holiday without being mobbed, crowded and annoyed, then this is a great place to try.

“Great spot for a quick bite!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

A little pricey, but not any alternatives when you are at the beach, so who can really complain? Nice little menu, good portions, high quality ingredients. Great in a pinch!

“Perfect for little kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

We really liked this beach. Water is very shallow and stays shallow for quite a good distance out. Our 2 year old was very comfortable going out in the water. It was very calm the day we went literally no wave action at all. Our two older kids would have preferred some waves but they were happy looking for shells and throwing the football around. Parking is limited and costs $8 for all day. Did not try the beach restaurant as we went after lunch but it was fairly busy which is a good sign. Cabanas and a variety of floating/boating apparatus can be rented although I did not inquire about the cost. A good time had by all.

“nice beach, not a lot of parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Drove here during Spring Break from our hotel which was less than 2 miles away but we couldn't find parking and the line to enter was long. We opted instead to take the taxi which I highly recommend at $6 one way to avoid having to wait in line to park at $8 per vehicle.

We went around 12 noon during low tide. You can see plenty of fiddler crabs bordering the sands and shrubbery near the shore. During low tide, you can walk across part of the water (knee to hip high depending on when you go) to the other side of the island to emerge onto the beach area facing the Gulf of Mexico. I'm not much of a beach person, but the sand in this area as fine and have plenty of shells. You can see plenty of local birds like pelicans and herons. If you're not a swimmer, you can walk the grounds for some good photography shots or just to explore. Make sure to come back before high tide as you'll need to cross the same water back to get to the car.

There were plenty of people when I went, but the beach still was not crowded as it gets up in the north eastern Atlantic shores.
