This will be a thorough review as we tend to be very picky travelers. :)
We rented 603 from a private owner (http://www.tammycapozzi.com). Overall, we had a great experience with her. Booking was easy and the unit was clean and exceptionally stocked. Also, her unit has a lock code so no key is needed! That made it super convenient for us, especially our 8 year old son.
We stayed on the 6th floor. The second bedroom has 2 double beds and a connecting bathroom. The master had a king (possibly a California king?) sized bed, also with a connecting bathroom. Tons of closet space! We absolutely loved the condo. It was extremely quiet and the view is amazing. We slept very sound! This was an area of concern for us because we left last year's vacation spot a night early because it was SO loud sleeping was impossible.
Not having a traditional deck did not bother us. The view is 360 and the windows can be opened. We sat there having breakfast in the air condition while listening to the waves. Also, her windows are tinted!
My only MINOR complaint is that the bathrooms do not have standard exhaust fans. There are vents but you can't switch them on. We showered with the doors cracked because of this. Also, the wi-fi did not work. I am sure it could have been fixed had we called the owner, but it wasn't a huge deal for us. We were there to relax.
The building is older but very well taken care of! There wasn't a single day we didn't see the manager out there working hard. I saw him as early as 7:30 am. He was also very helpful in suggesting local spots to dine. He was never far away if something was needed. We, however, had no complaints.
The 2 elevators are prompt! We never waited over a minute. There is assigned covered parking, which was appreciated.
The pool is decent size and super warm and inviting. There are plenty of chairs, so we never felt the need to go down and "reserve" one like at other spots.
This was our first time staying in a place that was not a resort and we didn't know what to expect. Believe these glowing reviews. It's a gem!
The lower level is a breeze way that has several grills and picnic tables. Someone was always cooking up something awesome smelling from one of the local groceries. There's even a chest full of ocean/pool tools that you can borrow from. I would have loved to see a rest room down there and a vending machine, but those are not deal breakers at all.
Love, love, love. The beach was cleaned 4 of the 7 days we were there. Seaweed was removed and the sand was swept. This was a pleasant surprise. We stayed in Gulf Shores last year and it wasn't cleaned once. What a shame!
Also, the beach is not busy....at all. I never witnessed more than 20 people on the beach in front of the building. The neighboring buildings have much busier areas.
Overall - great vacation! Madeira is very close to both Clearwater and St. Pete. We spent time at both locations. Madeira seems to shut down around 10, which we weren't used to, but it didn't bother us. We were usually back in our room by that time. We did go out for a late dinner 1 night and were surprised at how much was closed or closing at that time.
Visit this place! You will NOT regret it!
