My wife and I wanted to camp with her brother (driving to the keys and wanted to stop in West Palm Beach first) so we all booked a reservation at Lion Country Safari KOA. First, when you book there, they cannot give you a campsite (like many other campgrounds). They can't guarantee anything and won't give you a campsite till you arrive. We found out why. Almost 75% of their campers are seasonal and are from Canada (not complaining anything about Canadian people) but seasonal campers get their campground for about 1/2 what a 3 day camper pays (in January 2006). There are very few kids (so good luck if you want to camp there if there are any sites open). You cannot ride a bike in the campground at night (even if you have a light on your bike)...lots of rules, don't do this, don't do that. No wireless internet anywhere, but they do have a dial up line you can plug into at the office. Also, no cable tv (close to a major area, West Palm Beach/South Florida). The traffic is horrendous in the area on Southern Blvd. - dump trucks as far as you can see...also, the campground has strict rules on dogs, but not parrots. One camper near the office had at least two parrots in cages in his "seasonal" screened room next to his rv. We could hear them three streets over. But, evidently there are no rules for them. This is definetly not a place to take your kids. Also, it would be nice if KOA could let you reserve a site but this campground caters to seasonal people and you are almost out of luck if you want a particular site. They are all grabbed up by people staying long term. There is a posted notice in the office about only camping in Florida 6 months. I almost forgot, all those sites with flowers, the decorative bottoms on your rv's, etc. really look nice if you are going to be there for a long time..! Enjoy it - I will never, ever camp there again...
