“Still wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Just spent a few nights at the Hilton; hadn't been there in almost a decade. I'd forgotten just how magnificent the beach is in front of the hotel. The Hilton is comfortable, with a welcoming staff and enough amenities so that you can enjoy your quick break at the beach. We had one dinner at the hotel and were very pleased with the quality of the food. Our Gulf view room was clean and comfortable, but does show it's wear. The room was the same size as any business hotel, but given that we spent almost no time in the room, it didn't matter. I truly hope the property owners and management will be able to return the same great atmosphere after their upcoming rebuilding and refurbishment. This place is a jewel to be cherished.

The Hilton Longboat Key is on the northern 1/3 of the island. It is on the beach and has wonderful views, from the pool, and a few rooms. In July 2013 they will close for 18 month of renovations, and are adding 85 new rooms.

It will be hard to know how hotel will look, but there are a number of positives that should continue. First, the staff on the whole is outstanding. The service was always friendly, and the staff on the whole is very helpful. We stayed for a week, and was always pleased with the outstanding personal attention we received. Second, the location is very good. The hotel is quiet and room was immaculately clean. Third, the pools is not anything special but again spotlessly clean and a veery good locations for families who do not want to be on the beach. Fourth, the food at the restaurant is very good and served hot. Finally, Longboat Key Beach is lovely, and during the middle of April, reasonably empty. There was a huge number of sea birds, and a small number of people walking or jogging on the beach. There were very few individuals or groups sitting or lying on the beach.

The hotel short comings are, first the the vast majority of rooms look at the parking lot or the pool, not the beach. Secondly, the rooms are quite small, and the bathrooms are extremely small. This could, change when the hotel in renovated, but if they are going to add 85 new rooms, it is most likely they will not change the current set of rooms. The rooms' interior will be modernized, but most likely remain small, with limited to no view. Third, we ate at hotel twice and the service, although very friendly, was extremely slow. It took 40 minutes to get two salads. Although we past the time, by watching the birds trying to outsmart the diners for a quick meal. Finally you will want a car. There is a bus, and surprising a large number of people use it, but given the location a car is a necessity.

There are a number of activities near the hotel. They include a wildlife viewing areas, good restaurants, and of course beach activities. It is not a big nightlife area, and we found everything was closed down by 10: or 11. To go to Sarasota, it takes about 15 minutes this time of year, and significantly more in season.

It is my opinion that we the changes planned for the hotel, my rating would go up, but even with out the changes, we had a good stay and enjoyed the hotel and the area.

Room Tip: If you come in from the Tampa Airport, plan on a hour and 20 minute drive.

Hotel was good, food was good, service was great, location was great. I was not happy with pool restroom cleanliness. Bar closed at 11 which totally kills any night life at the hotel. Did not have an ocean front room but we were in the room very little anyway. Hotel is closing down in may or june for renovations which are sorely needed, board walks, buildings, etc. need the renovation; place is not the quality i typically expect from a Hilton branded hotel. We would probably check it out again post renovation. the 4 rating instead of a 3 is purely due to location.

Room Tip: shoot for ocean front if you can get it.

After reading other reviews I was a little worried about what we would find. However, the hotel was a pleasant surprise. The facility my be older but it was kept clean and the service was good. The rooms are spacious but could use the remodel (we had the std. 2 queens and 4 family members). We were not on the breakfast plan so we kept milk and yogurt in the mini-fridge for breakfast and used the vanity table outside the bathroom to store cereal, plastic bowls/utensils, fruit etc. I used the fitness room every day - the treadmills and ellipticals worked well, the air conditioner kept things cold and the only smell came from the industrial rubber fitness mats placed under the equipment. I also appreciated the reliable and free wifi service. We will be back after the re-model.

I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. The hotel staff (especially Dennis at the front desk) were wonderful and accommadating. They did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable.

The rooms were nice, big, and clean. Ours was next to the pool and hottub. The pool area does load up during the day and chairs get hard to find but there are plenty on the ocean which is only steps away.

We had breakfast every morning in the restaurant. Food was fresh and hot with a variety of items. Fresh cut fruit was offered each morning and was delicious.

Drinks could be purchased at the bar. Were not over-priced and everything I tried was good.

Will definately return.

Great beach front hotel. Nice deck, bar and pool. Rooms roomy, but not great views as its set perpendicular to the beach. Desk staff very pleasant. Did ask for late checkout and could get only a half hour relief. Grounds well maintained and orderly.

Room Tip: Get a corner room as high as possible, floors 4 or 5.

The hotel staff are excellent and the location and beach is beautiful. The rooms aren't anything great especially given the high room rate over the Easter week but really nice spot! The grounds are beautiful and I appreciated the free wireless service and access to printer in the lobby.
