We were only able to spend one night on this quick getaway to meet up with friends and only chose th Hilton because it was almost next-door to the apartment they'd booked for the week but were pleasantly surprised.
The website warned that the hotel was closing soon for a year-long renovation and upon our arrival were warned that they were down to a skeleton staff but found the place wonderful. If anything needs renovating they’ve hidden it well.
Our room was spacious, clean, well decorated and comfortable.
The view was fabulous. (blow the bucks - all $15 as I recall - to get a pool view room) The restaurant was the only disappointment.
We’d heard since our Toronto friends ate there last year how great it was but that seemed to be where the staff was most skeletal. Our server didn’t know how to open a bottle of sparkling wine. She began by asking if she needed to take the wire part off first & then pointed it at her face as she unscrewed it and was fortunately rescued by another staff person just as I thought I’d better get up and do it for her safety sake. Having got past that, the starters were good but not great and our entrees were down-right disappointing. My seared tuna was cooked through even after I’d even said rare when ordering and the rice was either undercooked or leftover.
We did mention this early on to the server but it was after she’d cleared that she mentioned it to the manager so a bit late to do anything. The manager did tell us he was sorry and wished we’d spoken up earlier. Also gave us a discount. The dining room was redeemed at breakfast which was great.
I can’t wait to go back and see what it’s like after the renovations are complete and they are fully staffed.
