“NOT dissapointed. . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed 4 nights at this property Feb 10-14. Admittedly, we had a few pre-arrival jitters from several other traveler reviews who were less than impressed. We are among the vast majority of guests who were impressed. The staff was great (with special compliments to Denis at the front desk for his outstanding personality and sunny disposition)! The hotel itself was lovely, the room very clean and in good condition, and the grounds were beautiful. About the location... it could not have been better. Longboat Key itself is very laid-back, gorgeous and non-commercial. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this type of vibe unless you are seeking strip centers, convenience stores, souvenir shops, gas stations and the like (all available within 2-3 miles either way of the hotel). This Hilton is surrounded by condos and high-end private residences. Truly lovely. The best part? THE BEACH! Incredible and you have immediate access from the hotel. Perfect! We lucked out with outstanding weather as well (low 80's and sunny). We plan to return every other year, if not yearly. We're rather discerning travelers when it comes to hotels and were so very pleased with our choice. Enjoy your stay if you book this property! We certainly did.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 232 which overlooked the pool and hot tub area (both landscaped lovely). It offer...

Hilton Resort: Longboat Key, Florida
http://www.longboatkeyhilton.com/

Pros

Good location
Large room with great view of Gulf
Very good food in restaurant. Generous portions. Appropriately priced.
Room service prompt. Food arrived hot.
Nice Beach/Nice Pool/Hot Tub
Free shuttle to St. Armands Circle and parts of Anna Marie Island
Housekeeping: worked with our schedule
Maintenance: Very quick to come to room when needed

Cons

Peeling wall paper

Cost: Even with my AARP discount it was way over priced for what you got. (AARP saved me $12/night which mostly paid the taxes on our stay and/or foot the bill for one dinner).
The room was in very poor condition. The bathroom needs special attention (see pictures of the bottom of the bathroom door, caulking needed, counter top looks stained). The closet door came off it rails not once but twice and the bathroom light switch was broken. Wall paper was peeling away from wall. Water spots on ceiling.

Carts blocking hallway

I would have asked for a new room, except the hotel was full and the view from the room was very good!

Service very variable. Infrequently the front desk acted as if they could care less. Although most shuttle drivers were good or very good, one or more again gave the attitude that they could care less. Wait staff in restaurant mostly very good….other times not so much. The bartender did not know his stock well. He did poor a good drink neat.

Maids left carts blocking hallway

No shuttle from airport to hotel

Door off rail....twice!

Bottom-line? For the most part this did not work. I doubt I will stay here again. I will not recommend it to my friends.

I came to the hotel thinking that the experience would be typical of any other hotel. That was not the case. The people at the desk are very professional and friendly. The location is exceptional. The beach is wonderful. The service is great, and breakfast was delightful. When I return, this is my stop for Longboat Key. Before I forget, the sunset views are spectacular!

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the beach. The sunset views are spectacular!!!

Booked this hotel at the last minute after arriving at another hotel (Homewood Suites) and finding it unsuitable. Assumed this Hilton would be a quality location as Hilton is usually a hotel of high standards. We understand that this location is due to take on major renovations. It is unfortunate that the renovations have not taken place sooner. The management is charging a high price for a facility that should have been razed years ago. Our room has ants crawling on the bar and the tile floor in front. The ants are probably on the carpeted floor too, but much harder to see. The floors do not look as if a vacuum cleaner has been used in quite some time. We are in room 319 and on the floor at the right corner leading into the TINY bathroom is a plastic collar stay that you find in the packaging when purchasing a new shirt. Wonder how long it has been there! After looking further at the other corners, I discovered more filth that should not exist in a hotel charging the prices that they are here! I will compliment the restaurant staff....very friendly and offered service with a smile. The reception/front desk staff were not so friendly. We look forward to returning, once the improvements are completed, and we hope this Hilton returns to the usual standards we have come to expect.

Room Tip: Wait to visit once renovations are completed!

We appreciate that you alerted us to your experience so that we could take care of the ant problem and service concerns. We value your feedback as a long standing guest and I'm very sorry that we disappointed you this time. As the comfort, health, and safety of our guests is my number one priority, we are reevaluating current quality controls in cleanliness and additional training opportunities will be offered. We're also addressing the pest control issue and reviewing customer service best practices.

We enjoyed our stay, but I understand the hotel is to undergo major renovations. Rooms are outdated, and Internet was slow, but it worked. Food was good and onsite restaurant with breakfast buffet came in handy.

After my husband booked this hotel for an anniversary trip, I got online to look at reviews and was nervous after reading some about the condition of the property. Don't hesitate to go! It is lovely and charming and clean. My husband travels constantly for work and often takes me or the family along. We have stayed in the very best presidential suites that Hilton has to offer all over the country as well as average rooms. By no means is this below par.

The service was amazing. Ty at the front desk took great care to upgrade us to ocean view and then deliver a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. There were snacks in the lobby and the breakfast buffet was one of the best we have had during our abundant travels. You can eat beach side if you choose under a huge banyan tree. There was even a white egret strolling near the tables some mornings as if he belonged there. The buffet had a large variety of hot items and a wide array of fruit (6-7 choices daily, chopped and ready for a great fruit salad). There was cereal, grits, oatmeal, toast, bagels, muffins, etc. as well. The wait staff was quick to serve and ready to hand you a cold, bottled water as you left to stroll the beaches.

The rooms were nice, well cleaned, and roomy. While the boardwalk and the pool were older, they had charm and ambiance you don't find in all the newer hotels where everything is cookie cutter. I loved the boardwalks around the facility and the beautiful white sandy beaches that were abundant with shells and wildlife. We even saw a pink flamingo in the wild during our visit.

While I understand that they must rennovate hotels from time to time, I hope they will keep some of the charm of the boardwalks, the beach-side seating and the large beautiful trees on the property.

If you are booked, don't hesitate to come. It has truly been a terrific stay!

Room Tip: If you don't want to pay for ocean view, get the rooms facing the pool and you will still get a...

When we were looking for a hotel to spend the night in on our recent trip to Longboat Key we knew when we saw the Hilton logo that would be the best choice. Not this hotel, its old and dated there were old worn out carpets and bugs in the room. We only stayed one night and they charged full price as if it were a 5 star property and even charged us a $75.00 fee to have our 5 lb dog stay with us :(

We appreciate your loyalty to our brand and we would hate to disappoint you. We hold ourselves to high standards in cleanliness and service. I'm glad you brought these concerns to our attention so we could quickly rectify the bug issues you mentioned with a local pest control company. We're also looking into additional face-lift opportunities and decor updates. We did review your folio and you were not charged the $75 pet fee you mentioned. We welcome any additional suggestions and we hope you come back to see what we've done to improve. We'd love to know what you think.
