“great staff and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2008

Stayed here for a relaxing week after a busy week in Orlando. We were due to check in at 4pm and arrived at 2pm but were given a room immediatly. The hotel rooms are quite small and a little old fashioned decor but they are clean and comfortable with a decent sized fridge. The pool area and bar/restaurant is lovely, food is great ( big portions) the staff are lovely, always polite, helpful and willing.

The beach is lovely and there are plenty of sun beds available.

The Joan Durante Park is close to the hotel and is lovely for a peaceful walk close to nature, and the Botanical Gardens in Sarasota are worth a visit. St Armands key is nice - plenty of shops/places to eat. We really enjoyed our stay here. We found all the staff to be corteous. Fellow guests and children were all friendly and well behaved. We understand the hotel is being redecorated soon and this will only add to the pleasure of a stay here as apart from a bit of old wall paper its great already. There is a supermarket just down the road as well which is handy for buying snacks, drinks, etc to have in your room.

We arrived early and our room wasn't ready which we expected. tThe reception staff were very helpful and as a result we had lunch in a nearby seaside crab shack which was delicious. Then our only real problem raised its ugly head.... We had travelled 3500 miles to be given a view of the bonnet of a car !!!! Our room was on the ground floor facing the car park. I remonstrated with the reception staff but to no avail ! Other than this situation (which really annoyed myself and my husband) the hotel is adequate. The main selling point like so many other people have suggested is the location. The room was very nice with a nice ''wetroom' bathroom. The breakfast was delicious. All the food was fresh and was constantly topped up. All in all our stay was enjoyablebut we wouldn't return due to the chance of the car park view!

Dear Katiecrunch,

Thank you for taking a moment to review our hotel, we greatly appreciate the feedback we receive from our guests. I understand the frustration that occurred when you were unable to receive the view you preferred. If the hotel had any available rooms, we would have been more than happy to extend a complimentary upgrade to a higher floor. We are happy to hear how much you enjoyed the Hilton Breakfast Buffet, the health conscious buffet was implemented in September 2007 and has been a huge success!!!

The location of the hotel is excellent. The services are more than adequate and the staff is friendly. We had an enjoyable time in this place, and the buffet breakfast was extremely good. The problem is that while the place bills itself as a luxury resort, and charges accordingly, it really is not. The building is more a Hampton Inn than a Hilton (e.g., the sliding door in our first floor room was adjacent to our parked car, the AC unit was of the window or exterior type, etc.). We would not have hesitated to rave about this place if the rates were more in line with the facilities.

Recently spent a week at the hotel with my wife , baby of 11 months and child of 3.
The hotel facilities were excellent and all the staff made a big fuss of the family and were over accomodating at meal times.
I thought the condition of the hotel is good and its proximity to the beach is ideal.
The rooms are large and spacious and housekeeping keep them very clean.
The restaurant is good value fro breakfast with a fixed price buffet( kids eat free) and the evening meals have a variety of seafood dishes.
People with their mobiles permanently attached to their ears is not only an irriation at the Hilton but accross all hotels in the US and seesm to be the norm where ever you go.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2008

We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of February. It's a nice hotel but the communal areas are very shabby and grotty, this did filer into our rooms in parts, very poorly finished, bulbs coming out of sockets, dirty carpet, etc. In fact the whole hotel needs some tlc and refurbishment work. What is really going for this hotel is its location. The restaurant is average however it's very handy to have it beside the pool. The pool area itself is very nice and location wise it's fantastic to be beside the ocean with amazing sunsets. I would implore the hotel though to have a policy of not allowing guests to use their mobile phones by the pool, we found it very intrusive and were subject to one gentlemen on his phone for a lot of the time doing a deal, don't we go on holidays to get away from this. We found the front of house staff generally very indifferent, most of the people who stay here are on vacation however it is a very inpersonal place to stay. The staff were frothing at the mouth at the business customers staying there but seemed to be not interested in those of us on vacation. When we checked in we were told there would be cookies and champagne each day, I think this happened once when we asked for it, we gave up after that as it seemed an effort for the staff. All in all a great location but not a great hotel, very impersonal

Stayed here for 6 nights, and rated all aspects very highly. Absolutely top notch location directly on the beach and a relaxed and calm atmosphere throughout the hotel although it was also being used for business meetings. Despite other (recent) reviews we found the front desk staff extremely friendly and helpful (Susan in particular) and when I lost a credit card it was found by a staff member within seconds and taken to the front desk. He got my grateful thanks and my financial appreciation. There aren't many "real" hotel options on Longboat Key (there are several very tired timeshare and/or tennis resorts), and this is by far the best. We had a great suite with an enormous living room, free wi-fi access, beach view, and enjoyed all the facilities - beach chairs, excellent pool and towel service, breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. We didn't have any linen pant problems, and overall perhaps our positive attitude to the staff and the hotel made the difference compared to other guests who might hold inflated views of their own importance. Wiil definitely stay here again.

Longboat Key is beautiful, and the Hilton has an ideal location. Lovely view of the Gulf, quiet. The room also was lovely, roomy and well-decorated. It could have been an ideal 3-night getaway, except for the front desk staff.
It's surprising how key they are in a hotel experience. From the beginning, the front desk staff displayed a callous, sometimes hostile, disregard for our comfort. As my husband was checking in, I joined him, and was asked by a young woman with a snotty tone, "Are you staying in the room? Who are you? His wife?" I've never had the legitimacy of my claim to my husband's company questioned before. When I asked about a AAA discount, she replied with the same attitude, "You didn't ask for it when you booked, so you can't get it now." Again, a first for us. All hotels where we've stay accepted AAA at any time prior to checkout. When I asked if they had a business center, she asked incredulously, "You didn't bring a laptop?" Turns out, the only available computer was one in the corner of the lobby, behind which, I mean right behind, the bellhop lounged, the monitor clearly visible from where he slouched. And the use of that very public computer was not free. A credit card number would have to be entered.
The next day when I called the front desk to inquire about the noted "in by 8, back by 6" laundry service, a young man asked if I would bring my clothes to the front desk. Again, a first. Shlepping is generally not part of a high-end vacation stay. The linen pants I gave them were not back by 6, and they weren't back by 6 the next evening. By that time my husband was highly annoyed and expressed that if he were on staff, he'd drive to the off-site dry cleaner himself to retrieve them. The young man, perhaps misunderstanding my husband's point, replied that my husband could drive into town to pick them up himself. After three more inquiries, and a reminder that we were checking out the next morning, the pants were returned about 9 p.m. At no time did the staff apologize for the delay, and they only pursued the matter because we bugged them every other hour. Plus, they charged us for the dry cleaning!
The staff at the restaurant was professional, friendly and attentive, but the menu and decor were uninspired, a disappointment at a high-end hotel. The outside patio, however, is perfect for breakfast or lunch. There are so many hotels along Longboat Key with the same beachfront access and view. I recommend staying elsewhere.
