“Always some disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

We have been dining at the Chart House for over a dozen years while it went through three or four owners. Each visit has been about a year apart because we never have left quite satisfied with the experience and usually returned at the request of some dining partners. That's what happened tihs week. Let's start with the positives. The atmosphere is lovely with a fine view, inviting bar area and grand space. The salad bar is expansive and beautifully presented. The wait staff is generally well informed and courteous, but the service generally lags.

The biggest problem has been that invariably one or more of our party is disappointed with some dish. This week it was the prime rib. We had two orders at our table, one requested medium and the other medium rare. They arrived with the medium one actually medium rare and the one which should have been medium rare a wild red and closer to raw. The server vanished immediately and it took a few minutes to flag down a manager to discuses the problem. The offending dishes were quickly removed and returned somewhat later looking like they had spent some time in a broiler. Both parties thought that the texture of the meat was remarkably soft, almost like it had been tenderized. The result that the dish was not bad, but somewhat disappointing.

We will probably be enticed back by friends sometime in the future, but not soon or with much enthusiasm.

“Always pleasant”

We make a point of eating here on our annual visit to Sarasota. Great view of the pass at sunset. Excellent food, especially the salad bar. Waiter a little forgetful but pleasant.

“Great bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013 via mobile

The Chart House on Long Boat Key has stunning water views and a beautifully decorated bar area. We went for drinks and appetizers so we could enjoy the views. I had a dry martini with top shelf vodka and three olives, excellent. I also had the Ahi tuna appetizer and the potatoe chips with truffle oil. Both were delicious. Our bartenders were friendly and professional. The restaurant setting is lovely and we enjoy coming here often. Cheers!

“Average food in a lovely setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

The strength of this dining experience lies in the beautiful dining room and the water view. The food is okay--nothing spectacular. I had a blackened tilapia with rice (seasoned uninspirationally) and broccoli which was cooked but not enough. The salad bar had a few interesting things, I.e., quinoa salad, an orzo salad and a garbanzo salad plus the usual salad bar offerings. My husband had shrimp with angel hair pasta and he have me a shrimp to try--it wasn't tender and it lacked any of the sweetness inherent in fresh shrimp.

The service was very good, attentive without being overpowering. I just wish the food would notch it up a bit.
