“Romantic Hideaway-The Beach @ Longboat Key”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

I found the perfect, best hidden, beach getaway that was exactly what our marriage needed! The Beach at Longboat Key is quiet, peaceful and has the most amazing sunsets enjoyed on our private 2nd floor balcony or on the beach which was just a few steps from our room. We went in mid August 2012 to celebrate my birthday and it ended uo being just what the marriage relationshiop doctor ordered! Just a little over 3 hours from Ft. Lauderdale it felt as if we were on a deserted island. We loved the Siesta Key, Sarasota, and Longboat Key area so much we want to move there!

Martha attended to our request to move to a more private studio and we loved the Murphy bed! The room was spotless, large and well equipped with towels, sheets and plenty pillows. With updated, stainless steel appliances it wasn't your cheesy beach decor but a place you could live comfortably. There were a few families there but we had the privacy we needed, upstairs and away from the pool. Siesta Beach is a must visit as is the Ringling Mansion and museum. We are already planning to go again in November!

Room Tip: we stayed in Room 226 and recomended it to my cousin and his wife who drove from New York and they s...

My wife and I come down to The Beach from Tampa (an hour and a half) at least 3-4 times per year and stay each time for two nights and three days. We grill (outside) steaks one night and hamburgers the next while we drink wine and watch the sun set. To us, this is the best place on the Gulf. The inside is OK (I don't like the Murphy beds in the studio where we stay) but that is not why we come. The outside up to the Gulf is beautiful and as private as you can get. We can stay at luxury hotels if we want to have fine accomodations and service. If you want a great location on the Gulf, go to the Beach. (I am sitting on the beach at The Beach right now getting ready to dive in the water).

Very clean and spacious rooms with top of the line appliances. Pool is small but right outside our suite. Suite 101 can easily accommodate at least four adults. We had two pull out queen beds and a seperate king bed. Each in a different room. Washer and dryer. Decent coffee (foldgers). Two large, flatscreen televisions with cable. Fast wi-fi (free). All cooking utilities are included. Staff was very helpful and cheerful. Beach only steps away, with free beach chairs.
Bed linens were clean, but mediocre.

We stayed here for four nights between staying in Sanibel and Clearwater Beach. We really enjoyed the accommodation. The patio was poolside and provided for easy access to both the pool and the lovely beach area. The service was excellent; respecting our privacy, but never allowing us to do without. The bed was a murphy bed! It was actually very comfortable. My only complaint is that when the doors folded back so that you could bring down the bed, they did not slide back into the cabinet. Just seemed like a design flaw and made it easy to bump them, making a racket. We were in 102 and it was just the two of us. It was fun that the housekeeping team made towel animals ( just like when you're on a cruise ship ) when they made the room. We were there over Valentine's Day, and they made two kissing swans and propped our cards to each other behind them. :-) Nice touch.

Room Tip: If you care more about the view then being poolside, get a second floor room. We'll do that nex...

We recently spent a few days in the "modified" 1 bedroom unit 225. It was clean and the staff treated us good. However, beware: the living area where the couch is, is VERY SMALL (about 10 X 11 feet) because the owner decided to partition off part of what used to be the living room to make a "bedroom". The queen size bed- which by the way is VERY LOW QUALITY--feels like plywood with a quilt over it! The sleeper couch is no better. The view of the ocean is quite obstructed by 2 palms--you have to play "peekaboo" to see the water. As others have mentioned in their reviews, each unit has a door inside to to adjoining unit, and I believe it is a hollow core steel door; anyway you can almost hear your neighbors breathing! Longboat Key is a very beautiful place--I love the area, but if you choose this place, ask for an upgraded bed :-)

The management and cleaning staff were great; we checked in very early and saw others check in as early as 9 a.m. It is run like a hotel with fresh towels and beds made daily, also daily coffee to brew yourself, dish and laundry soap (this unit has a washer/dryer in it; there is another on site for all to use, I think.) We left a cell phone and they called within an hour of our departure to see how we wanted to have it sent to us. It arrived promptly.

The only drawback to this place is the rooms are not set up like a home; the front door opens right into the bedroom (with a double bed; would love a queen), then comes the den and then the beautiful living room/kitchen which is right on the pool with a nice patio, looking out to the Gulf of Mexico. The middle room, they call it a den, has a sleeper sofa but you have to walk through it to get to the bedroom from the living room. The overhead fans in each room were great to keep the kids asleep when parents were up early. Two bathrooms were nice, but no storage space in them at all.

We will be back as the location, value and staff are excellent.

It's right on the beach in a quiet part of Longboat Key. The sunset views from the balcony were spectacular. The property is well kept. The only drawback is that the room we had was tiny - a tiny efficiency. It would have been fine for 2. It was cramped for 3. I can't imagine 4 sharing that space. We had a queen bed which was comfortable and a sofabed which was not. Seating: one sofa and some dining chairs.
