Preface: We were a group of 4 guys, 30-ish average age, looking for a good value.
We were there for our friends' wedding at the Hilton next door. I saw the bride & groom's "suite" there at the Hilton and, apart from a nice view, it was no comparison to ours @ S'n'S. Super-friendly management, clean villas/ cottages, right on the beach (15yds. away), screened porch w/ patio furniture, sheltered parking, full kitchen, big fridge, more TV's than needed (good for kids I bet), efficient central air, ceiling fans in every room, fold out sofa, sand shower outside, grill outside, TV's speakers were better than my "premium rental car's," no credit cards (but I just used a combo of check & cash), shades on windows were dark enough for us to sleep in after the reception, hot showers & walk-in closets bigger than @ my own house.
Let's see-- draw backs... Well, as a restauranteur myself, I'm not a big fan of paying the charges to multi-billion dollar profit credit card companies. It didn't bother me to use travelers checks, but I could see how that would be inconvenient to some. A room sign says that you need to clean up somewhat before leaving, but I think it just means piles of sand & garbage. I saw the crew do a really nice job on the cottage we were in on the first night, before switching to the biggest cottage for all the other 5 nights. They did a good job. We saved lots of $$ & --more importantly-- time by cooking breakfast, snacks and a few lunches in the abode. That's one of my pet peeves about using big hotels... You waste so much time just trying to find something to eat when the sights, culture & sand and seas are waiting for you to get your rear in gear. Simplify & enjoy the vacation that you're paying for more. Being from the midwest, sand, sun & surf is quite valuable to us.
The mgmt. (I think Pat, Jan & one of their husbands) were all quite polite, patient with me collecting $ from the entourage & helpful with directions & such. DO NOT SPEED on Longboat, FYI, especially at night and especially if you've had more than one coctail. The locals warned me & you'll see the radar traps along the way. You won't really shave off any driving time anyway. That's all I can think of right now. Best place for the money after hours of vacation planning. Cheers & enjoy.
