“Awesome resort in a beautiful island setting!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

Our family stayed at Sand Cay over Spring break this year. It was our first time visiting Longboat Key and the West coast of Florida. All I can say is WOW! The island of longboat is so peaceful, and the beaches are naturally gorgeous. The resort had several free amenities like laundry and DVDs and the unit was equipped with a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and everything we needed for fun on the beach. The staff at the resort was top-notch- Olivia and Terri in the office were always smiling and ready to answer any questions I had. The condo itself was spacious, very clean, and had beautiful Gulf views. It seemed like almost all the units would have at least some water views and you are only a few steps from the beach. We will definitely return!

Room Tip: third floor units have cathedral ceilings

We have just returned from a one week stay at Sand Cay and were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the accommodation and the quality of the apartments. We had stayed previously on Anna Maria Island and enjoyed beautiful well equipped accommodation. This time we were dismayed to find a tired looking apartment, with old furniture, an ancient VCR player and dusty old artificial plants and wall hangings. Underneath the sofa and beds was thick with dust and there was black mould round the shower cubicle. Light bulbs were missing in the main areas and bedding was old with spare bedding thrown in a heap in the top of the wardrobes. The kitchen had old appliances and the dishwasher was so ancient it was missing the top half of the upper tray as it had been fitted directly underneath the sink! The glassware and cutlery were old, mismatched and dirty. We were surprised to find no washer and dryer in the apartment but there was a free laundry on site for guests, which although adequate, could have been maintained better. Overall the apartment did not look as if it had seen any improvements in the last 20 years. On the plus side Sand Cay had a nice pool and a wonderful beachfront location. As someone else mentioned in their review you do need to look VERY carefully at the quality of the internal furnishings as photos can be very misleading. We will not be returning to Sand Cay as there are too many other nice condominiums in the area.

Dear Guest,
I have reviewed your recent post on Trip Advisor and I am of course disappointed and concerned about your experience. It is unacceptable for someone to check into a unit that is not clean. We have admittedly had some problems with our cleaning company as of late, and have made some changes that have now rectified this issue. If at any time you have a problem with cleanliness, please do consult myself or any of the other office personnel and we will send the cleaning contractor back to the unit to clean anything that was not to your satisfaction.

We have sixty individually owned condominiums here at Sand Cay. All owners do have different taste in reference to the décor and most of the condominiums have been updated. Some are still in need of some updating and we are working with these owners to accomplish this. I will say however, that Owners do take to heart the “Guest Comment Survey’s” which were are given to each guest to complete during their check in procedure. Several condominiums have been renovated based on what the guest suggested should be changed in the condominium. I am not sure which unit you stayed in here but I do hope you return and try a newly renovated condominium at Sand Cay during your next visit with us. Regardless of where you stay, we will make sure your condo is neat and clean.

Thank you for your feedback and we truly hope to see you again!

Stayed in Unit 205 for 10 days in February and it was just what we expected, except we had only two days of the Florida signature weather we expected. The unit had a nice view of the Gulf, was nicely appointed with an eclectic selection of reading material and beach furnishings, which we didn't use. It was quiet and peaceful; there were no major problems, and the little glitches were handled efficiently and cheerfully by the staff. We didn't have a washer dryer but enjoyed the free units near the office. Also, the extensive DVD collection was a plus.
Our unit had a weird assortment of silverware, dishes and glassware; furniture of a homey family second home reminding me of my parent's cabin. Linens & towels were fine.
My few negatives echo those of others about the property: No disabled access, unsightly trash & recycling, echoing walkways and loud AC units.
All in all a good value in a great location.

Just spent a week at Sand Cay. Have stayed here many times but it has been close to 3 years since my last visit. Grounds are nice and pretty well kept. Nice pool, and poo, area. But beware, units vary greatly in quality and comforts. Most I have rented have been great, but I just rented unit 113 and it is in bald shape. Poorly equipped with ancient TV's, badly stained rugs, very old dirty looking bathrooms, badly damaged slider screen....etc etc. when looking for a unit here, look at the photos closely, and even ask questions. Other thing to be aware of is office staff "works for the unit owners". The office staff is very loyal to the owners, not you the renter. Saying that they do react to your needs but loyalty to owners comes first.

Had to address these last two reviews. We have been staying at the Sand Cay at least yearly since 2000, are well travelled and have stayed at many upscale resorts. While calling this a "resort" might be a stretch, for the most part this is a well run, clean, accommodating establishment. I, too, dislike the walkway maze but this property was built in the 60s or 70s and coming up with an alternative walkway would be extremely cost prohibitive at this point. We are most concerned with the comfort WITHIN our unit and on the beach. The vast majority of the units in the complex have been updated to above average standards, some are downright beautiful, and a few still need updating ... but it is pretty easy to see which ones by the extensive photos of each unit. Take some time to check! Bathrooms are small, but again, built in the 60s/70s. The rest of the unit is sizable, comfortable, well appointed and should you be missing or needing anything, the office is usually responsive and accommodating. The beach is well kept, there is now an abundance of chairs, most units have beach toys and rafts for your use, and are equipped as the second family homes that they are -- most have everything you need to be comfortable. And yes, you do have to wash your own (used) towels and bedding, but having FREE laundry facilities on premise is a huge plus to me. In addition, most first floor units have washers/dryers in the unit. If you are looking for a five star luxury resort, this will not fit the bill. If you are looking for a clean, laid back, comfortable "resort" that will give you great memories, you will love the Sand Cay. We have seen the same families return year after year (we all come out every night at sunset!) ... with good reason!

I have been going to Sand Cay Beach resort since 1978 and it has been a family favorite for the past 36 years. When my children are asked about their favorite vacation memory, they will all say Sand Cay. We have only missed four visits in 36 years and my family is having a reunion there this Spring Break. The condos are great, accessible, comfortable and clean. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for miles! Many of the first floor units have washing machines. The staff throws a great Easter Egg hunt for the kids at Easter. Our favorite is the beach side grill - No need to deal with lines and crowds, and a great social setting at the "grill". Horseshoes at sunset is a tradition, weekly bike rental lets us get everywhere, and The Salty Dog for lunch is a must do! Love it and can't wait to get back!

I met my sister and my 96 year old Mom here four days last April. Longboat is to die for. This place had a great rate for in season. It had everything we needed. Was clean and beautiful. You don not need to interact with staff. It was just like home.
