“Absolutely Fabulous Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

We traveled to Longboat Key in July for our honeymoon as part of a longer stay in Florida and all i can say about sand cay is WOW.

From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome by Terri and Kathy and during the week we were there the staff were fantastic.

We stayed in apartment 218 and couldn't have asked for a better place. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. There were 2 bedrooms - the main one has a huge bed and an en suitebathroom and the other room had plenty of room with twin beds and enough space for our cot we hired from ABC rentals who were also great. There was there a family bathroom and an open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area. The best part however was the balcony which was very spacious and looked out straight onto the sea.

The apartment was very roomy and was like a home from home. It was very well maintained and we didn't want for everything.

The communal areas were also very well maintained and clean. The pool is great for swimming in and playing around in. we had our one year old son with us and he loved it. We never used the BBQ area but the facilities again were fantastic.

There is a publix a short drive away and several restaurants again a short drive away. The only down side was that there were no restaurants in walking distance but that goes for the whole of Longboat key and t be honest we just loved staying in and having lots of home cooked food on the balcony.

we absolutely loved Sand Cay and will hopefully return soon for a special trip. We just loved how relaxed and tranquil it was. We spent most of the time on the balcony watching the day unfold and it was great because if the weather turned we could just go inside and if it was nice we could watch the famous sunset.

We could not recommend this place enough and would like to thank all the staff for making our honeymoon so perfect.

Firstly Unit 309 is Very clean, great views and is one of the best we have ever stayed in. The office supplies Free DVDs with popcorn. There are two paddle boards which are free to use. Tennis rackets and tennis court are there too be used to.. Free laundry facilities which is really good news.. Although people from other resorts use the facilities ?. The girls in particular in the office are helpful and polite. . The resort well it's affordable.... And yep that shows on some of its visitors who don't give a monkeys about any one else.. The pool gets dirty very quickly as these morons think the pool is a bath after they have come off the beach. They also use floatables in the pool along with body boards. Young children under the age of 13 are left in the pool unsupervised by their parents... There are rules but these people don't follow them. The surrounding pool tables where never cleaned in the three weeks we were there along with plasters that were never picked up along with hair bands hair grips etc . The pool bin was not emptied daily. The pool man needs to come and clean the pool on a Saturday morning as I understand the commerce of chambers doesn't like work going on on LBK at the weekend.... We had awful adjoining neighbours . The first lot BBQ'd every night. And it's prohibited .. Now that's safety in a timber framed building. ! They where noisy and continually moved furniture around AM and PM .. The next lot of neighbours where worse. Shouting screaming very noisy and again moving furniture about at all hours of the day. Taking bottles of vodka down to the beach then coming back drunk, noisy and frighting. If you would like to introduce your children to Marijuana then this obviously is the beach to do it. We where sat on the beach and four young adults staying on the resort LIT UP. Yes how lovely to watch them get stoned throwing their empty beer bottles around. In front of our children.Yes they where staying at Sand Cay resort. Well if you advertise affordable rental Vacation holidays you get exactly that clientele of low life's........ We have been coming to The Gulf of Mexico for many many years and we would not return to this Resort which is such a shame as the unit is really spot on. My husband did go and complain to The Staff about the pot smokers and the BBQ... We are waiting for the manageress to get back to us. We wasted our last day waiting for her to contact us after 12PM ... Still waiting and we are now waiting to get on our plane. So that's it .. Obviously Not doing her customer service properly or doesn't care . This resort could be very very good but some of the awful people they have staying reflects so badly on this resort. This holiday cost us Thousands of dollars and we are so disappointed. They have our hard earned money... I so wish the Manageress could have taken the time out to speak to us, as this has spoilt our holiday. (At no point during our last day where we contacted by any member of the staff. My husband went into the office twice to be told she was in meetings ! He replied please get her to contact me )

I recently stayed at the Sand Cay Resort on Longboat Key. We stayed in unit 202 and enjoyed every minute of our vacation. This unit could use a little updating, but was very clean and the owners have a few supplies they leave for renters such as beach umbrellas, tennis balls, high chair, ect. There was plenty of space for 5 adults and an infant with lots of stuff. The view from the condo was amazing! If you stay in a unit that has a gulf view, you will probably want to be on the 2nd level. As I could not imagine how first level condos would be able to see the ocean with the shrubery boarding the beach. The grounds of Sand Cay were very well kept. The location of the resort is great as well. We did not have too many dealings with the staff because we rented from a real estate group, but from what I could tell everyone was nice. We would definitely stay at Sand Cay again and I would recommend this resort to any looking to vacation on Longboat Key!

Had a wonderful stay at Sand Cay. Stayed in unit 303, AMAZING ocean views from almost every room. This unit could really stand out more if they did upgrades. It has potential. There is an elevator there with bell carts to help w/ luggage if needed. It's kind of hidden. The pool and grounds are kept very clean, the landscaping is beautiful. Had fun playing shuffle board too. The weather was perfect, thank goodness. Longboat Key is one of my favorites, very quiet and private. It reminds me of old Florida.

We've been coming to the Sand Cay at least annually since 2001 ... resort has come a long way in that time and is still the best value on the beach. Appreciate the care and cleanliness of the whole property and the attentive staff. Just came back from a family reunion that was fun and relaxing ... stayed in unit 103 for the second time ... well equipped, lovely furnishings, washer/dryer, great view and just a few steps to the beautiful beach. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: First floor convenience for young children and those who hate stairs, but upper floors have great vi...

Best deal in Longboat! Great for families. Some condos are more updated than others, but I've never had a bad one. All units are clean, have nice kitchens, wifi. 1st floor best with kids, but if you want a view go with the second or third floor. Bring your float, anchor, cooler, and enjoy!

I have been staying at Sand Cay since I was 18 months old, and have been going almost every year since. The customer service, cleanliness, and variety of both relaxing and fun activities is phenomenal all around. I love staying in the lower level units so we can pack light and wash our clothes, towels, etc. with the washer and dryer right in the unit. It's a quiet, beautiful setting that offers fun and sun for people of all ages. Great restaurants nearby, fantastic shopping in St. Armand's Circle, the glistening pool, and the whole time you're right on the Gulf of Mexico. Absolutely LOVE this place and cannot wait for my trip in August!

Room Tip: 1st floor units have a washer and dryer, gulf front condos are AMAZING, poolside is convenient if th...
