“don't be fooled by the outside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Who would ever believe that such exquisite food, presentation and atmosphere could be in a restaurant attached to a motel. The food is superb, the presentation is typically French; the service knowledgeable without being too pretentious and the atmosphere simple but in its own way, elegant. And you can have a conversation because it is so quiet. Probably too pricey for most the folks who live or visit Longboat Key but I, for one, hope that it is able to keep up its quality and stays in business for many years to come.

“Food isn't everything”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

The food at Maison Blanche is excellent -- although very pricey for the serving size. We have never been there when there were more than three tables of diners and this night was no different. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived. My wife and I were enjoying our dinner and a bottle of wine, when a group of four was seated at the table right next to us. The two couples were elderly and through no fault of theirs needed to speak much higher than a whisper to converse with each other. There were three or four other tables in the dining room that would have accomodated them just fine and would have allowed us all to have some sense of privacy. You need to realize that this restaurant is quite small and no tables have any better location in the room and there are no serving "sections" that management needs to concern themselves with. Needless to say, the balance of our evening was spent listening to stories of our neighboring diners' children and their problems and a variety of other topics. It's not that an inexperienced employee made a seating mistake -- the owner was the one who seated them next to us. This ruined a $150 dinner for two -- which is average if you have wine. Again, the food is excellent, but beware, the romantic ambience can be upset at a moment's notice.

“Expect and Receive an Outstanding French Meal”

Our favorite restaurant. The chef and his wife and their daughter deliver a truly exceptional dining experience. One of the few gourmet dining opportunites in the Sarasota area.

“Elegance and taste”

For s special evening where you don't want the island feeling. An evening spent in a more sophisticated environment with the food quality to match. A very nice French experience.

“Best of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

If you are looking for a romantic special occasion restaurant, or entertaining guests who appreciate impeccably prepared food, this is the place. Service is attentive and competent, but not intrusive. The decor is elegant but spare. There is no bar as such - the focus is entirely on the food and wine. It's not inexpensive, but the $65 prix fixe dinner is a bargain considering what you get. Tonight my wife enjoyed the swordfish, which she said was probably the best she ever had. I had the sweetbreads, which were equally good. We had souffle Grand Marnier for dessert. Wonderful meal. Be sure to go with someone you love.
