“Good option for Longboat Key”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Stayed 4 nights mid November. It was a good option for what we needed. Some previous reviews call Sandpiper Inn 'old Florida'. I would call it high 'kitch' in terms of decor. However the rooms and kitchenette are spotlessly clean and well appointed with all you need, especially if you want to prepare your own simple meals. Thankfully, on this occasion, first impressions were wrong. The owners where very friendly and very helpful, adding to the pleasant stay, but the front office is, to be honest, a mess, and with barking dogs, and the strong small of them (and I am a dog lover), I think that this is something that could be greatly improved. The location is great, being on the beach. I was surprised however by the huge amount of accommodation in Longboat and north. and I would therefore perhaps research a little bit more to see what my dollar could get me next time, as I am not convinced that there are not better options for the money. However, overall, we had a good stay, and enjoyed the accommodation and location - just would suggest there could well be other better value options to consider.

Room Tip: Not sure of the comparative cost, but the two rooms parallel to the beach had the best location.

Thank you for the kind words about Harold & I and how we have greatly enhanced the décor of the Sandpiper Inn Longboat Key. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and our vast improvements to this marvelous "OLD FLORIDA" pet & family friendly, garden property, directly on the Gulf of Mexico.
We have renovated 10 of the 11 rooms and are working on the last room as well as our living quarters & the office. In the effort to give our guests the best vacation experience, we choose to delay the renovation of our apartment. We hope to have the office separated from our living room by next summer so the doggies will be out of site, however, most guests like to interact with our friendly, Yorkies!
There are many options to stay on the west coast of Florida, but nothing can compare to the clean, quiet, tranquility of Longboat Key on one of the best beaches in North America! Of course, I am biased by having the Gulf waves, outstanding sunsets, and various wildlife on my backyard!!
We hope you will visit us again.
Best Regards,
Christine Gorman Cullison

Stayed here for four nights and wish it had been longer.
Location was perfect, on the beach with enough loungers for everyone.
Rooms lovely and clean, well appointed and beds were comfortable.
If you need to change your towels/sheets you just put them in a basket that is supplied and leave the basket on a bench near the washing machines next to the office, as long as this is done by midday you will get a basket back in the afternoon with clean towels/sheets.
Having a waterfall and beautiful gardens was a big bonus and added to the tranquil atmosphere.
It is a quiet Inn and we appreciated that, made our stay all the better.
There is a publix about four miles away where you can pick up any supplies needed.
There is no daily maid service, we did not mind this at all, but if this is a must for you whilst on holiday best go somewhere else.
There is a strict no smoking policy, which includes the Sandpiper stretch of the beach, but a couple of steps and you are no longer on this section.

Room Tip: All rooms are fine number 101 is next to the office, the rooms then run along in a terrace towards t...

We've been coming to the Sandpiper Inn (formerly known as the Riviera Beach Resort) since 1999, and it gets better EACH year. Beautiful landscaping, steps from a virtually private beach, and comfortable and cozy units. Thank you, Chris & Harold (and Mary Lou & Richard), for two very special weeks. See you next year!

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the place. The 100-numbered units look out at the gardens, while the two rooms nu...

My husband and I just stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. The location is perfect, only a few short steps to the water. The beach is quiet, and if you are an early riser you have most of it to yourself. The birds are very entertaining and we enjoyed all the different species. Lots of sandpipers, sea gulls and pelicans to entertain you. The inn has been remodeled and is clean, peaceful and had everything you needed to relax and enjoy yourself. The inn is within walking distance of several excellent restaurants, shops and a deli/bakery. There are many things to do in the area, however the big draw for us was the peace and tranquility that you rarely find on beaches. The inn is small and you get to know most of the people staying there. Almost all of them are repeat customers that have been coming to the Sandpiper for years. I know my husband and I will be back and we will stay here for sure.

We recently stayed here while in town for a wedding. We stayed in room 106..it is more like a bungalow than a room. The tv in the living room is huge..although I did miss not having one in the bedroom. The beach was almost deserted...I am an early morning runner and I just loved being able to run on the beach .we had a great time and it is pretty close to a publix and a cvs

We usually stay in Anna Maria for our long weekends and summer vacations, but for this trip we needed to be a little closer to Sarasota. Found Sandpiper Inn, and based on the great ratings, decided to give it a try. This is a wonderful little gem, and is now our new favorite place to stay! The room was super-clean, well-stocked, and the air conditioning was extremely quiet and cold. The unit also had the biggest, best quality TV of any beach rental I've ever seen (may not be important to everyone, but it WAS the first game of football season!). So close to the beach, and a very private beach at that. The lounge chairs provided on the beach were an extra-special treat, as were the fluffy beach towels the owner gave us at check-in. The only negative - and it's a small one - is that the pool is really small and needs a little attention. Again, not that important since the gulf is so close, but the kids like to play in the pool from time to time. Overall, a great weekend trip to Longboat, and we will return to the Sandpiper Inn next time!

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the the Sandpiper Inn Longboat Key, Florida and that you were happy with our vast improvements to this "Old Forgotten Florida Gem", directly on the Gulf of Mexico! Yes, as we state on our website & brochures, the pool is very small, in fact, it is a hot tub with chlorine. However, in order to replace the pool, we would have to destroy our beautiful tropical gardens, not a good option in our, or our many long time returning guests, opinions.
Unfortunately, the pool has gotten a lot of attention and tons of money, since Harold & I purchased the property in 2005. We replaced the heater several times, it is hard to believe how salt and sand affects stuff! We most recently replaced the heater last year with an energy efficient natural gas heater. We have resurfaced the pool several times at a cost of thousands of dollars, yet the tiles and pool surface continues to show marks. The many "kids" of all ages continue to use the pool as it is very clean, despite the cosmetic defects.
As you state, how important is a pool when you get to spend quality time on one of the BEST BEACHES in North America!
Thank you for staying with us, we hope you will return soon.
Best Regards,
Christine Gorman Cullison
