We always loved the Diplomat-went for many years. Decided to go for a few days in August. A wedding was taking place. The tents and all the people and music were not what were looking for! The wedding was lovely and we have no resentment for the bride, groom, and wedding party. The staff should have warned us, or moved us to the other end. Another couple from Missouri remarked how miserable they were, also. The staff offered not even an apology. If you want peace and quiet check the agenda first. The wedding tents totally blocked our views.

We chose this place to have our wedding, and most of the guests stayed as well. The property itself if beautiful and comfortable. The tiki huts, pool, and beach were so great to use. Since all of the units are individually owned, each one was very different. Our friends and family seemed to have very nice units with comfortable beds and working air conditioning, but ours was less than perfect. For starters, the A/C in our living room did not work the entire 4 days we stayed. We told the office on 3 separate occasions, and they even sent maintenance up to 'fix' the issue. It never got fixed, so we enjoyed a muggy room for our wedding. Also, the window A/C unit in the bedroom pumped air directly onto our faces while we were on the bed, so we ended up moving all the furniture around to get avoid the aggressive air. The bed was not comfortable, and we had to finally request housekeeping to change our sandy sheets and vacuum on day 3. We love the idea of this place, but we just lucked out with a bad room. The rooms are VERY spacious, and very accommodating, especially to families. It was great having a fully stocked kitchen with plenty of accessories.
Although we didn't like our room, we did like all of the others, and absolutely loved the beach.

Room Tip: All rooms have a beach view. 1 bedroom units are huge. 2 bedroom units are bigger than my house.

My husband and I needed a weekend get away. I saw this on trip advisor and called. The people at the desk were very helpful over the phone. Once we got there they checked us in informed us of everything we needed to know about our condo. The complex is an older building but you would never know it. We had the studio it was clean as a pin. It was right on the beach which was beautiful. It had chairs in front of each unit that you could sit in and enjoy the ocean. The pool was lovely and very well maintained as was all the landscaping. It was a perfect location . We were about 20 to 30 mins from Sarasota and Siesta. Great places to eat and walking and biking areas. And I thought what we paid was very reasonable for ocean front .
Also just had to say there were several families staying there at the time we were there a reunion I believe. But we never heard one sound once we went inside our condo. We will be going back and asking our children to join us for a family vacation. The front desk said they enjoy helping families have adjoining or at least in the same area whenever they can. We are out if Jacksonville, Fl not a bad drive at all.

Stayed four days at this hotel. I would not call it a resort. All the rooms are privately owned and ours was remodeled slightly since the 70's but the room we stayed in was average and it never really got cool. Full kitchen. Beds were average. Need updated. The den furniture was new I think. I understand they do not provide full housekeeping but a family of five need clean towels and more than one roll of toilet paper during that time . They never even took garbage out. Office closes on Sunday at one which is crazy so we were out of luck. We did enjoy
the convenience of being just ten steps from the beach. Office staff was nice enough at check in. It was clean enough. We might come back for beach convenience only.

The reason we will return is for the perfect location and friendly staff. The rooms all differ due to being owned by different people. We were inside three rooms. Some are better than others, but all need updating. Older pink tiled bathtubs. Old and rust in places in bathroom and kitchen. Old 60s like slide medicine cabinets built in wall. But we were able to put that all aside as the location can't be beat and it was clean which really matters. A few steps and you are on the beach! In an effort to better protect the sea turtles, I do wish the Diplomat would create a rule that requires guests to get their beach furniture off the beach at night instead of leaving it overnight as some guests did. There have been turtles on Longboat Key that have been getting stuck in beach furniture when they come ashore. As of right now, the city of Longboat Key hasn't made this law, but that shouldn't stop the Diplomat. If this rule does exist at the Diplomat, it is not enforced. The office closes each day at 5:00, so maybe it wouldn't be possible to babysit guests (guests should know better anyway!). We recommend this place and plan to visit again.

I almost don't want to write a review, because I want to keep thus little gem to ourselves. A clean retro beach condo with modern appointed rooms. Right on the beach, quiet romantic getaway. Great staff. Awesome place. Can't wait to go again. Two thumbs way up!!!

This was just the perfect place for us. Uncrowded beaches with powdery white sand and turquoise water, all within less than 50 steps from our ground floor room. Our studio room was clean, recently remodeled with plenty of clean towels in a very quiet family resort. Pool was nice size and very clean, although since the Gulf was so warm and calm, we never got in the pool. The kitchen in the studio was well equipped with all utensils, appliances and pots and pans that we needed to make some of our meals. Plenty of bath towels, also a nice walk in closet with lots of hangers for your clothes. Full windows in the front to see the gorgeous Gulf with plenty of chairs and loungers, either uncovered or under little cabanas. Lots and lots of great restaurants near by (short drive). We tried Crab and Fin on St Armand's Cir and also Dry Dock Grill and had fantastic food at both. We will definitely be back, bringing kids and grandkids next time.
