“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

Just checked in. Was told we would have a king mini suite with king size bed in the new building but upon check in we're put into the old building with queen bed, stained towels and dirty rug. Staff member said they can put us anywhere. Slight attitude. Of course we are in the sunny keys and not in the cold north so why complain!

We stopped here for a night on our way to Key West and were pleasantly surprised at this charming place. Very quaint with very friendly and accommodating staff. The beach and lounging area outside are a great place to relax, loved the hammocks! Rooms are quite spacious and the bed was surprisingly very comfortable. Would definitely recommend to friends and travelers.

great place on a tiny piece of paradise. it was a pleasure to stay here.

i agree with the reviewer who mentioned that the shower was lacking - in water pressure that is - hot water a plenty! our 2nd floor room was nicely decorated and the ipod dock is a nice touch, though the dock is just a dock, inputted to the television, so the sound quality was slightly tin can-ish.

be prepared to drive a bit or be self sufficient with food and drink. there is nothing close by and the quick mart across the street is in a time and product warp.

Room Tip: 2nd floor room with view of the gulf

We were on 2nd floor. facing water. Front desk, housekeeping were excellent. It is a wonderful place to relax and everyone was friendly. We used the double hammocks which were very comfortable, and plenty of different seating options on the beach so you could have sun or shade. The room was beautiful and King bed was huge and comfortable. They had new bath/shower in our room. You could hear the traffic and the chairs outside your room weren't very comfortable but we were on the go or on beach and it far over road the few downsides. We thought we were in Heaven. Just sat on beach with palm trees and beautiful flowers surrounding us, sat on the beach seating, were mesmerized by looking out at the water while we napped on hammock, read a book and relaxed. Computer/printer in room with chairs to map quest. Hard to leave paradise.

Room Tip: Ask to face water, not canal. You do have water view whether 1st or 2nd floor. We liked being at end...

Its cheap and in a weird spot between Marathon and Islamorada but its got a lot of old Florida key charm. It's comfy and the room is roomy. Just don't come here expecting a "Resort". It is not.
But you can get a spectacular view of the gulf and the wonderful heavens at night in one of their very comfortable beach chairs.
Don't miss the Habanos restaurant about five miles down the road and really the only plate to eat close by. It's authentic and wonderful Cuban food in an unpretentious atmosphere.

We had the three bedroom townhouse across the street at the Zane Grey inn. It was clean and comfortable, plenty of room for 6. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend this inn as a jump off point to key west, not so much as a destination in itself. It's best to eat in islamorada before you settle in and bring food and drink supplies as there is no store for quite a way

This is more than a Motel. We booked late resulting in our taking the last available place on the 28th and 29th of Dec 2012. We booked the suite for two nights and spent more than we normally would on a hotel room but it was worth it.
What a great place. If I really had to pick one thing that thought let the room down- and this is only a very slight niggle- was that the shower wasn't great. A new shower head would sort that out easily.
We slept really well here. The bed was great. The motel breakfast was what I'd expect from an upscale motel. I'd stay here again without hesitation if I was in the area again!
Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: Room 128b is a suite with a nice view from the communal balcony but it's at the top of the stair...
