Lime Tree Bay Resort Motel

I guess my expectations were built up too high from viewing the motel's website. We stayed in the Treehouse Suite, which looked very cool in the pictures. When we arrived, it had the large private balcony as advertised. The kitchen and living room were average at best. The bathroom was a little small, but it did have a separate sink area so you could still do your hair, brush teeth, etc, while others were having a shower/using the facilities.
The bedrooms were adequate in size, however, major problem with the doors. The one bedroom had a door that was made of slats, like the kind you'd find in a store dressing room. This left you with no noise privacy whatsoever. For those wanting to watch tv in the living room, you had to have the volume on whisper quiet because every word could be heard in the other room. OR if you wanted to have a "romantic" evening, expect the other room to hear EVERYTHING! The other bedroom door had a fabric covered piece of wood hiding a major hole in the door. This also let the noises through at night. This room (which is the one I stayed in) had a spider in every corner of the room. After I removed them, I pulled back the covers and hopped into bed. While reading my book, I realized I wasn't alone. Covering the pillow and under the pillow were hundreds of tiny ants! I flicked and disposed of many then pulled the bed away from the wall to see if I could see anymore. They were everywhere...the walls, the carpet, everywhere. So I pulled the bed further into the middle of the room and continued to flick and kill as many as I could. Some were even at the foot of the bed. After about 1/2 hour of doing this, I finally got to sleep. The next day we checked out and mentioned my little "visitors" to the front desk. They were not interested in the least. Suffice to say, I would not recommend this motel to anyone. Had the staff took a little interest in my situation, I might feel different. Next time, I think my $300/night would be better spent elsewhere.

We stayed in the Captain Herbie suite and it was perfect for a family of 6. The rooms were clean, updated, and everything was in excellent working order. The private balcony was picture perfect and we enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast there everyday. The pool area was awesome, loved all of the hammocks and unique chairs and lounges to enjoy throughout the day for some rest and quiet. There is no "beach" to speak of but you certainly can go into the bay. The staff was very nice and we hope to return to Lime Tree again!!

First of all you have to realize that the term "Resort" is used very loosely in the Keys. That being said I have to give credit for the Web Page Designer who made this very expensive roadside motel look like a beach front resort. The only beach was the ground up coral sprinkled around the parking lot which led to a quaint gathering of seaweed which smells quite lovely after an 82 degree day in the sun. The pool and hot tub were perfect for small children or anyone successful at the Atkins diet. The staff was almost as non existant as the quality of food at the next door restaurant. The room was clean with the exception of the humming bird sized hornet that we found on the ceiling fan. Luckily next to the coffe pot with no filters and blender base with no blender, we were able to find a broom to beat it out on to the deck so the pigeons could feast. For anyone who thinks that this place is nice must have eaten spiked key lime pie before arrival. I would never stay here again...

Lime Tree Bay Resort is a motel on US1 about half-way between Islamorada and Marathon. It is right on the water - making it an attractive spot. It has a pebbly beach with a few chairs, nice view of the sunset, and attractive landscaping. Rooms are self-catering. Our room was rather oddly arranged with King bed and a day bed and two small chairs with round table. There was only one end table, and the light for reading was poor. Bathroom was very tiny. Fridge was noisy. There was a tiny seating area outside. It was pleasant but the motel needs to be more attentive in its maintenance. Price seemed high for what we got. People in the office were helpful with recommendations. Management, though, is not tuned into recycling or conservation, aspects that should be mandatory.

We wanted something central for the Keys, and there are a lot of things to visit within a 10 mn drive (theater of the sea, boat tours...).
It is quite isolated on a single stretch island - Long Key - still in the back/near Italian restaurant & small grocery store.

We had the Treehouse suite, which is very nicely decorated, comfortable and quite big. You have your own deck and great view.
You some time have the smell from the Italian restaurant, and you can ear the nearby road...

There is also a small pool (fine for kids) and a spa.

If you want to have a great boat tour, ask for Cpt Chris and his electric boat, it is very nice and good for you environmental friendly tour....
