SMALL ROOMS, loud A/C, SMALL BATHROOMS, DIRTY FLOORS, SMALL TV, only one restaurant which is good (little Italy). Nice during the day, nice pool and hot tub, quiet place, no crowds like in Key West. The hair dryers are at the front desk because they walk off they said. The beds are not very comfortable. We paid $256 for two nights, but booked 8 months in advance. This hotel is more of a budget hotel with nice scenery. They have an excellent location on the water, no beach though. We probably won't stay there again, but try somewhere else instead. There is nothing to do here in Layton, you have to go north to Islamorada or south to Marathon. Marathon is more like a little town with normal stuff.

What a fantastic location at the water's edge, complete with hammocks under the trees and a private pier and raised pool area for relaxing in deck chairs. The location is given as Islamorada, but that's just a general section of the Keys. Look at a map to find Long Key at the very sounthern end of Islamorada. Shallow water with rocky shoreline where some were swimming, but don't expect a wading beach with waves. Small and quiet, at least in early December. Obvious water damage to the bottoms of the doors, but the place smelled of fresh paint and not mold. Large clean room with tiny bathroom and shower. Walk to Little Italy for a slightly above average dinner.

If you are looking for a luxury resort, this is not for you...however, if you want something affordable and pleasant, this is likely to suit! Our room was simple (standard) but had everything we needed...no noisy A/C, just a ceiling fan which did the job for the time of year. Granted, the bathroom was small, but functional and clean. The best bits were the hammocks and the little jetty...a perfect spot to watch the sunset...the resident cat added a little character to the place too! Desk staff were reasonably helpful but not overly friendly. The only restaurant was Little Italy...pretty average dinners but a good breakfast menu...you need to be prepared to drive about 10 miles to find something else. There is a convenience store across the road, but I wouldn't depend on it for your every need. Over-all, our experience was OK.

We have stayed at the Lime Tree Bay on several occasions. It has been developed over the past few years. It is fine if you want a very quiet laid back holiday. A few minus points. The bathrooms are tiny and in need of updating and a GOOD CLEAN. There has obviously been a leak of some type in the building as we too had water damage to the ceiling which had not been repaired, would not have taken long to paint it. A little bit of effort would make this a really great place to stay instead of being okay.
The Little Italy was good once they got around to serving us.

We stayed at the Lime Tree Resort in Long Key Florida in Nov. 07. The
property of the motel is beautiful with palm trees, dock, BBQ, pool and hot tub, etc. BUT our room (104) was a disaster. The total price of $359 for 2 nights was way out of line for the mess we got. The room
was on the small side for 4 people-that was ok, but the bathroom was a
postage stamp with mold everywhere. The widow did not open, handle missing and rusted shut. The sink was loose on the wall and I was afraid one of my teenagers would lean on it and it would fall off. There had been a leak in the ceiling and it had not been repaired. The surface was flaking off. There was an air conditioner mounted above the kitchen stove that I could not reach without climbing on a chair so I used the plug to turn it on and off but the screws on the add-on recpticle fell out and I was afraid I would get electrocuted. When I checked out I told the desk attendant the numerous problems and
she said it was "my" responsibility to let them know of the problems.
I am not one to complain, but I told her it was her motel and they did
know that this room was below standard. She condinued trying to place the blame for this on me-- all delivered with "nasty" attitude.
