We found Cap’s Place to be very disappointing. For food served the prices were excessively high. Food was OK but I have had better at chain restaurants like Red Lobster. Our waiter was condescending and made rude remarks. It is the only restaurant that I have been to in a long time that does not offer free refills on soft drinks and does not offer either Equal or Splenda. My wife was also weirded out by all the cats that surrounded the place and the fact the were feeding them while we were waiting to be seted.

This is a novelty experience and fun for travelers and visiting guests. The boat ride is short and if you are lucky you will get a bit of local history on the ride over. The bar is very rustic and the old historical pictures on the wall are worth a perusal. Once you get past the gruff gatekeeper (the hostess) who has been miserable every time I go, the waitstaff should be friendly. The food is decent. They have been known for their heart of palm salad, which I thought was less than thrilling. However on our last visit I didn't even see it on the menu and heard no mention of it by the waiter. The food is decent. Our guests from out of town really enjoyed their experience there.

Ahhhh! The ferry ride across the majestic "Lake Placid". If you can get by the exhaust fumes ........... and the not so cushy deck chairs, a passable experience. The bar ........... hmmmmmmmmmmm ............. not sure between quaint and old and decrepit ......... drinks were good .......... but overpriced. Table was ready right on time. Waitress friendly .......... she did like my shirt .......... a bit ditsy but familiar with the restaurant fare. Soup was only fair. The "famous hearts of palm" salad ............ tasteless. The lump crabmeat appetizer was excellent as well as the sauce. Snapper and scallops were good as were the mashed potatoes ............. the mystery vegetable (Eggplant) was forgettable. Key Lime pie for dessert was good ............. even the color was correct. All in all a different dining experince ................. but not a memorable one.

Basic fish. Basic preparation. Overpriced for what you get. Don't be fooled by the prices - you do NOT need to dress up for this meal. Great locale = great history but could we get some great food please? The best thing about it is the boat ride over. Once that's over you might as well turn around and ride the boat back cuz the food at all that......
