“A Typical Lauderdale-by-the-Sea motel; maybe a step up.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Another of dozens in a long list of tourist 'attractions' in Florida.

The town is small, quaint and has a great feel. But as the USSR was once described by a Soviet leader:

It's all painted rust. It looks pretty until you look closely

Sea Garden Resort is maybe a step up from other motels in the area just because the owners are also the managers - so they are not robots. If you ask, you can negotiate a decent deal whereas the other motels in the area are run by random employees.

The hotel/motels in this town were built in the 50s/60s/70s and have not been renovated. Some on the Ocean have been updated, but only because hurricanes tore the buildings down.

The point is, this town is 'quaint' because its buildings are old. Dingy. Dirty.

There is *no* incentive for any of these business owners to update their properties, because every other one in the area isn't updated either.

Also, Canadians come down from November through March/April. They pay Manhattan prices ($3000.00+ per month) for these studio or 1 bed rooms. This is an additional incentive for these businesses to not upgrade...they know that no matter how bad the rooms are, the Canadians will head down in droves...willing to pay premium prices for what would be a ghetto in other parts of America.

Conclusion: The Sea Garden Motel is perhaps a step up from the other 3 or 4 dozen motels in the area, only because it's run by the owners. With that being said, decide if LBTS (abbreviation for this town) is where you want to be.

ALSO**** - BE CAREFUL in this area...just like every other sea-side town in Florida, there are felons hiding out in cheap motels...You'll see a well dressed group of people and their set of nice cars on one side of the street, and the other side will include questionable people with tattoos across their faces. Looking for ways to loosen the wallets of anyone.

You've been warned .

This was our first visit the owners ms margarite and Gino were extremely nice I was initially a little nervous because I had never seen the place and I initially got it confused with the Wyndham Sea gardens. I was looking for a place to stay the day after Christmas through New Years on a strict budget and I have a three old so I was very picky about cleanliness. I was very pleasantly surprised our room was extremely clean smelled great. The rooms are tiled which I love instead of carpet room had wifi and great channel selection. We stayed in room 118 also the location was great the beach was across the street very safe .

Our family stayed at the Sea Garden Resort in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in July 2012 and we had an awesome time. The rooms were clean, and all requests were met in a timely manner by a very pleasant owner, Margueritte.
Everthing is within walking distance. Publix supemarket, CVS pharmacy, the beach, the Town Square with a wonderfl selection of restaurants and entertainment.
The resort is very cozy and makes one feel extremly comfortable. Pool was a good size and very clean.
We walked everywhere day or night and felt very safe. The rate we paid for what we received was phenomenal. Thank you again Margueritte for making our reunion a memorable one.

Room Tip: Rooms by poolside would be my choice.

Recently my husband and I spent 10 days at the Sea Garden Resort at Lauderdale By the Sea in Ft Lauderdale to celebrate his 65th Birthday. Upon arrival we were met with genuine warmth by the owners Margueritte and Gino. It was definitely a home away from home experience.
We occupied one of the 1 bedroom apartments with a full size kitchen, including laundry service available on site. Easy onsite parking, and a heated pool. Excellent value for the price!!. It is located close to a large Publix Supermarket. The beach is across the Street and the Town Square is in walking distance - every Friday night, a side road is blocked off for a Street party. We dined and danced under the stars to a live band. It was wonderful.
Margueritte and Gino, thanks for the birthday wishes and the cocktails we shared with you by the pool. It was indeed a memorable birthday for John.
We’ll be back!!

I came here during February, and boy was it the high season. Every hotel and motel was booked. As a last resort I called the Sea Garden, and they had a small efficiency available for $85 (one of the cheapest rates I'd found) so I booked it, and figured I'd take a gamble! When we first got here, we were told that our room wasn't ready because the people who were in our room went out for the day and never came back. We were placed in a slightly larger room for the first night, and then had to move the second day. That was sort of a hassle, because we couldn't unpack anything, and we had to live out of our suitcase. But the small efficiency was....small. So very tiny. I was getting claustrophobia. But we barely stayed in the room, so it was ok. The room was failry clean. But the lighting was not very good. The decor was somewhat old-fashioned, and it had a slightly musty smell. But nothing to terrible, we paid so little for the room, that I didn't feel that I could complain. The pool area was nice, but was not heated. All in all, this is far from the Ritz, but it is cheap cheap cheap! And it is in walking distance to the beach and a shopping center with a CVS and a diner. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea strip. I would stay here again if I felt like being frugal.

Room Tip: Choose the one bedroom as opposed to the efficiency. It's too tiny.

Hello, we gave you a reduced rate because of the inconvience to you for having to wait for the room you booked. The guest forgot that they were supposed to check out on that day and went to spend the day at the beach (this happens on ocasion).
We have small and large efficiencies as our ads specify just depends on ones budget and what they feel more comfortable in.
Thank you for pointing out about the lighting we will definitely look into it.
We have not had any complaints about a musty smell but will also check out the rooms in case we have missed something.
We welcome criticism as it allows us to correct anything we may have missed so we can better your comfort even if you had paid a minimum rate you would have had our attention, we would have done everything in our power to correct the situation.
We were not sure if you were refering to the pool area as not heated or the pool itself but we had a new pool heater installed in January and have had no problems with it, we did have some electrical problems and had to shut the pool down for a day while the electrician was working on it, we apologise for that inconvience.
Hoping you have accepted our apologies.

My husband and I have started our own New Years Eve tradition by spending it by the beach after church and review the past year and write down our goals for the new. This year we decided to stay on the beach and found the prices so high but not at A Sea Garden Resort!! For 2 nights we spent less than what all other beach hotels were asking for 1 night! Marguerite and Gino, a husband and wife team, own this wonderful property and they make it feel like home. It is very clean and cozy and they offer a variety of rooms. It is perfect for the family or couple getting away for a week and want a suite with a kitchenette or just a regular hotel room. They have the active poolside or the private garden site. The beach is just a short block away as it the active Commercial Blvd and A1A area where Aruba Beach Cafe is and the Commercial Pier. I highly recommend it and you cannot beat the price!!

Room Tip: For a romantic, quiet getaway, choose a room toward the back of the property - no guests walking by...
