“Great Hotel right on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2008

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel because of the amazing view and accessibility to the beach. The hotel is about a 25 minute ride from the Ft. Lauderdale airport ($35.00). It's in a very quiet location, and the surrounding area has small-town feel. We have stayed both times in the junior suite on the lower floor and can't imagine staying anywhere else. You walk right out onto a small patio, which leads you right onto the beach. You can rent a lounge chair for $3.00 per day (it would be nice if that was included in your hotel price, if you have more than 2 people staying for a week, it can get pricey) and take an umbrella from the pool and you are set for the day. There are about 4 restaurants within walking distance, plus a Walgreen's and a 7 Eleven. There was also a Village market (right across from 101 Ocean restaurant on El Mar and Commercial) where you could purchase cold cuts, and cheese, and liquor. Walgreen's also has a liquor store right across from the pharmacy on Ocean Blvd. (A1A). The Galleria Mall (Sunrise Blvd.)is about a 10 minute cab ride ($12.00) and worth the trip. We found the complementary breakfast sufficient, you get your basic fare. The staff was quite helpful, every time we asked for something, they were very accommodating. The room is large, queen size bed with a kitchenette, dining table and a very good size bathroom (bathrobes, safe, iron and board included).

We didn't have a car and didn't find a grocery store within walking distance, but I am sure there is one somewhere.....also when staying on the lower floor you do encounter few lizards, so if one is squeemish and doesn't like the little criters you may choose to stay in one of the upper floors.

We checked out number of hotels along the beach, and this hotel is the one. It's right on the beach, good size hotel, plenty of parking, close to restaurants, what more can you ask for?

  • Liked — The accessibility to the beach.
  • Disliked — For the bar to be opened by the pool.

Our family stayed at the Sea Lord for three days during Easter Break. . . .We were more than pleasantly surprised at the amenities and fabulous view. We booked a one-bedroom apartment and wished we had booked there for our entire Easter vacation. The apartment was large and the kitchen well-equipped. This family-owned property takes pride in the cleanliness and unkeep. The continental breakfast in the morning is an appreciated addition. Another plus is the ability to literally walk to charming shops and restaurants. We travel as a family a lot and found the Sea Lord to be a treasure. . .do not hesitate to book your Florida vacation at the Sea Lord!

This hotel is great! It is quiet, clean, and the service is AMAZING! It is right on the beach with a pool and awesome views. We just showed up to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea because we needed to pick up my in-laws from their cruise the next day. It was a Saturday and every "chain" place we had heard of was already booked for the night. We saw an ad for this place and called. The guy was SO nice. It is a family owed place. We got a room wiht a balcony facing the ocean. UNBELIEVABLE views. We are very satisfied and will be back!

A wonderful family operated beach front hotel that offers you a warm welcome and excellent service. This was our second visit to the Sea Lord and once again they didn’t disappoint. We stayed in an ocean front junior suite which was very spacious and looks to be recently remodeled with modern furnishings. The room includes a kitchen which is well stocked and contains a microwave, stove top, refrigerator, coffee pot and coffee, toaster, pots and pans, plates, bowls, and glasses, and utensils including a bottle opener and cork screw. They offer a free continental breakfast until 10am but we always buy groceries for breakfast and lunch so we never took advantage of it. The hotel also offers free wireless internet with a consistent signal, however be aware that it is not a secure connection. The balcony offers beautiful views of the dazzling turquoise waters of south Florida. Their beach lounge chairs are well worth the $3 per day rental as they make lying on the beach a much more pleasant experience. They also offer the use of free beach towels. The beach itself was clean and wide, however, you were still only a few feet from the ocean or the hotel. The clientele was mostly older couples but there were a few families with small children though overall a very quite atmosphere. Another great asset of the Sea Lord is its location as it is only a few blocks from Pelican Square. A leisurely five minute walk leads you to shopping and restaurants. We had dinner one night at Athena by the Sea which had good food and reasonable prices. Lauderdale by the Sea is only a few short blocks and contains no high rise condos or hotels thus it is an oasis unto itself and the Sea Lord Hotel a refuge within it.

We spent two nights at the Sea Lord before catching our cruise ship. The hotel may not be quite as close to the FLL airport and Port Everglades as some properties (about a 20 minute cab ride), but that's about the only negative we could site.

Our room was clean and spacious, with a coffee maker and refrigerator. The continental breakfast was good and provided a variety of selections. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Access to the beach was about a simple as you could hope for -- just walk out the back door. The hotel provides beach chairs and towels.

We did not have a car, but there are restaurants, gift shops and other retail stores within easy walking distance of the Sea Lord. We enjoyed two great dinners -- at a Greek restaurant and an Italian one -- and both within easy walking distance of the hotel. We also enjoyed the shops up the beach at Commerce Street, and we had a very nice lunch at the Grill there. There is also a drug store within walking distance if you forgot something you need for your stay or cruise.

The Sea Lord is a very good value for the money and we will stay there again on our next vist to Fort Lauderdale.

The location is great. You are on the sand. The biggest problem are the rates that are charged for this hotel. It is ridiculous. You can stay at any hotel you want that will also be on the sand in Lauderdale By The Sea and even if the rates are about the same, you'll get tons of extras like a health club, a real pool (not a tiny one) a normal sized laundry room, a modern room (not one that smells of mildew) and most importantly full service (towels , chairs, real breakfast not Sam's Club cookies). I hate to knock this hotel down but what should actually cost no more than $125 is being charged $255 to $300+. I hope this helps anyone that is looking for a place to stay at. If you want to give your money away, The Sea Lord Hotel is the place for you. I just stayed at a 2BR 2 Bath on the sand, $160 a night. It has 3 restaurants and a Tiki Bar outside by the pool area and a full service staff. I will not give the name so it doesn't appear like I'm a competitor but please do your homework and you'll find many like this on a google search or craigslist.com.

Excellent service, love being on the beach, staff is very acommodating to any needs. Plenty of good restaurants within walking distance, e.g. East Side deli for breakfast special or lunch, Keese's for falafel or mid eastern, Kelwins for ice cream. Boat basin nearby Bahia Mar for fishing or snorkel trips, and then all of the Ft Lauderdale greats e.g. Las Olas. This was our first stay at SeaLord,my wife and son are begging me to book another vacation at SeaLord.
