“Disgusting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

The unit above our efficiency had been condemned, along with the outdoor staircase leading up to it. One of the doors was off, revealing a hot water heater. The outside of the whole place was falling apart, and there was rust everywhere. The window frames on our unit were all decayed and pieces falling off. On the inside, the draw drapes didn't work, the outside of the refrigerator was covered with marks and discolorations, the freezer was so full of frost that it was not usable, there was a thick layer of dirt and scum on the ceiling fan blades, and the bedskirt was covered with rust. I spent quite a bit of time looking for bedbugs with a flashlight, and thankfully didn't find any. I think the place will be totally leveled soon, as they own the building across the street, which is being totally re-done.

there were yellow fluorescent signs pasted to each second story door/entrance. i could not read word for word what the signs said, but i did manage to conclude that they were from the city of fort lauderdale and that no one was supposed to go near the second floor due to it's lack of habitability. that was after i checked in very late the night before. the second story was inaccessible because the concrete stairs were cordoned off, chopped up and had no railings. some of the second story units lacked doors and appeared as though they had been gutted or used for storage of brooms shop vacs and random boxes or something. not quite sure.

i'm not sure if the owners plan on rehabbing to make habitable or if they plan on anything at all. one thing is for sure.....it's simply not habitable for any person. once you pay and arrive, it's like they don't even try to hide the fact that the place is just broken, run down, not secure, and void of: other guests, internet, safe conditions, security, a front desk, lockable doors, ...i could go on but whats the point?

it is unfortunate because there is potential to be a spectacular place to vacation due to it being on the ocean, having a large pool and patio area, ample grassy grounds, privacy from the beach, larger units than you will find at other nearby motel/efficiencies. but nothing is in order.

i kind of feel bad for my review but people need to know before booking and definitely before paying.

I recently stayed at the Villa Caprice for two weeks of vacation from January 16 to February 1 2013. I have stayed here five times(this trip included) starting in the early 90's. To say I recognize this property now, is an understatement. It used to be a true jewel with beautifully kept grounds all around, a clean pool that was daily tended to, rooms that had clean functioning windows, very clean towels(white), very clean pillows and pillowcases, clean sheets. The apartments/rooms were cleaned every day, which included vacuuming, dusting, floors and carpets washed and cleaned. The kitchen sink was spotless and bathroom tubs, sinks and toilets used to be hygienically cleaned. There used to be amenities for the bathroom(toilet paper, glasses, soaps etc.) The kitchen was immaculate with properly stocked equipment in the cupboards and good stove and fridge. I have used the word CLEAN a lot.
The picture now is one decrepit things, broken things, dirty wherever you look and mold and dust. Just plain dirty and very, very, very rundown. Health and sanitation authorities should be called in. As it stands now, the top rooms on the second level have been shut down by the fire department as HAZARDOUS.
I paid 2500.00 and stayed in the corner room on the oceanfront( room 19) and do feel ripped off.
The striking thing also was that there are no phones any longer in the rooms and security is quite lax. If there was an emergency, you better have a cell phone with you.
The attitude of staff is quite nonchalant and somewhat arrogant, like you the guest are an inconvenience especially when you have to chase the staff down for toilet paper, clean towels and the like. They don't have enough or little stock and they keep rewashing the same dirty towels and sheets to give to the next guest, who may not get any.
I would highly recommend that you do not stay there under any circumstance. Go somewhere else. It is a sad state of affairs!!!
Oh, yes the owner is also in a sad state of affairs.

It is like a little piece of heaven. I love when I can travel and go to the grocery store and cook in the room. The Kitchenette was perfect because we spent most of our days on the beach so we just made lunch and brought cocktails with and food with us. The Florida beaches are beautiful and the fact that the sand was at our fingertips made all the difference. I would even consider looking here for a girl’s weekend trip. There r plenty of bars, restaurants, shopping, and water activities available.

We recently stayed a this hotel for 3 nights with my mother, step-father, aunt and uncle. The location is beachfront and is the best part about this place. The grouds are in dire need of repair and so is the staff at the front desk. Do NOT stay here.

I have stayed here for the last 4 years and the resort has been a mixed bag. I am booked in for the January but may cancel. Good points, Beach Front resort. Pool is allways clean and grounds are well kept but it seems the pool is allways "solar Heated" meaning the heats not working. Plenty of chairs around pool and on the grounds. Rooms are large with large screen T.V.'s with a decent cable selection. Bathrooms are a little run down but the water pressure and warm water make up for it.. Rooms also have full size fridge, oven and micro wave. Unless they have fixed the ice machine since my last visit getting ice can be a problem as some of the fridges make ice and some don't Breakfast around the pool in the morning , but the coffee goes fast. Warning if you don't have a smart phone their internet only works when sitting near the office. Office staff can be good or bad depending who is still there.
Lots of "older people" so you can have your own pool during the day as they scurry away from the pool between 11:00-5:00 to hide from the sun. Almost all guest I have met are friendly with most coming from The New York, Jersey and Chicago area. Non Smoking rooms but you can smoke on the grounds and around pool or I'd be out of there.

I came to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea for a conference and stayed at the Villa Caprice for a few nights. The location is marvelous and quiet. I was given a very reasonable rate which included breakfast. The hotel has a lot of character and potential. I was notified by the staff (friendly) they are going to start renovations very soon which I am sure will be much like a unique private resort when finished (I had talked to another guest and they said they come to rent for a month every year in the same room). My room was comfortable and I enjoyed the view tremendously. I had no issues with the staff; in fact, the office person was very accommodating to my request to move my bed in the room (to face the oceanview) and gave out fresh beach towels every morning. I will definitely be back and look forward to see this charming hotel renewed!
