Only a 1 minute walk to the beach and village. Short ride to Ft. Lauderdale if you want more action. They have a nice hot tub that I used often, as it was a bit cooler than normal. The pool is also heated, so that helped too. I didn't find the staff freindly at all, probably because we weren't the regulars?? Not rude, just not freindly. The place is clean and our unit had a very nice full kitchen. Free safe in the rooms. There is a balcony on the 2nd floor but you cannot sit out there unless you're in rooms 20 or 21 which also have somewhat of an ocean view. There is also a table and chairs in the middle but not sure if it was a first come first served, or if it goes to the middle room? Guess I didn't care enough to ask. All in all we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Our room #32 had a palm tree right outside the window, so when it got very windy the leaves would sm...

We loved the laid back atmosphere. There was a friendly staff, nice pool, cabana by the beach with free lounge chairs. Nice beach and close to everything. Not a lot of money for a lovely stay. Book it.

Room Tip: Rooms on second floor have a better view, but no elevator.

I have been coming to the driftwood for the past 6 yrs. as a guest with my sister who is a owner there and love it so much I have now become an owner. It has everything that you could ever want in a vacation both for the young and the old. Everything is clean, bright and safe. There are many activities just within walking distance with many stores right around the corner. The manager Ellen makes the place very enjoyable and she and her staff are always there to help make your vacation that best possible. The beautiful private beach is well kept and beach chairs are there for your convenience. If you don't enjoy the sandy beach there is always the gorgeous pool to relax around. After relaxing around the pool there's always someone ready to play an exciting game of shuffle board. I can't say enough about the place. I have taken my grandkids there and they can't wait to return. Highly recommend for both the young and the old.Kathi M

I have been an owner at the Driftwood for 25 years and all I can say is that this place gets better every year! The updates to the complex over the years has improved this place 200%. Ellen and her staff are so accomodating and make this an enjoyable place to stay year after year. The people I have met over the years are alot of fun to be around, especially those who are there in weeks 39 and 40. The location could not be better, especially if you are a single person. Restaurants, bars, and shopping are all in walking distance, so no car is needed unless you want to explore the Fort Lauderdale area. Also, the town of Lauderdale by the Sea has a free bus called the Pelican Hopper with connections to the Broward County Transit System. I could not think of a better place to be!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: all rooms are pretty similar except for size

We've just returned from yet another fab holiday at Driftwood. We took our friends with us this year and they loved it. It's clean, safe and close to everything. Ellen and the team make you welcome, and keep the resort in tip top condition. It's a paradise for the kids, the only pool in fort lauderdale with a diving board. Everyone friendly and we made lots of friends again. In fact I loved it so much... I bought 2 weeks there. It is all being modernised gradually, but everything in the apartments work including the air conditioning, which is not as qtrready stated is controlled centrally. Go there and be like us.. you'll go back!

Room Tip: If you have young kids, always request a ground floor room and they will always try and accomodate.

Location is good right next to restaurants and Walgreens in Lauderdale by the Sea. People were nice. Alot of old people drinking beer, a few younger partiers, and a busload of kids in the pool screaming. It is true people did try to be nice. The accomodations were lacking of comfort, especially the bed, but the 1 bedroom unit was clean. Since the property is old things need updating. My refrigerator kept my food cool but cold enough. The pillows were awful and the sheets were awful. The airconditioner is central and not individualized, so it was not cold enough for me. Then the power went out all over the complex leaving us all to suffer with no air or no refrig over night and I was gone the next morning. Airconditioning is a dealbreaker if it doesnt work. Like I said people were friendly enough but I prefer a newer resort without having to socialize with anyone if I dont want to. This was an RCI choice, and a bad one for me. Sorry driftwood you have work to do.

Ellen Z, Manager at Driftwood Beach Club, responded to this review, December 3, 2012
We are sorry you did not enjoy your vacation with us. Our staff works
hard to make every guest feel welcome and satisfied, so we appreciate
your suggestions!

We are currently in the process of updating our kitchens and living
and dining room furniture as we want our guests to be comfortable.

There is a thermostat in each apartment which can be individually
adjusted to each guest’s preference. The refrigerators can also be
adjusted if they are not operating correctly.

As you mentioned, the Driftwood did suffer a power outage during
Hurricane Isaac’s heavy winds and rains in early September. For South
Florida, this is not unusual and is beyond our control as the entire
area was affected.

One of the Driftwood Beach Club’s points of pride is the friendliness
of the owners and guests, and we're glad that you agree!

We do hope you’ll try us again in the future. If you do, please stop
by the front desk and let us know if we can do anything to make your
stay even better!

My husband and I stayed here again! We just love driftwood and the helpful staff, especially Ellen the manager. The apartments are light, comfortable and always soo clean. Great location in ft lauderdale by the sea, a stones throw from the beautiful beach. Driftwood has a great atmosphere, lovely swimming pool, and jacuzzi. There is so much to do and see in this area of town, we spent a week here and there was not a dull moment. Shopping, cinema, great resturants and lovely long walks on the beach....lots of swimming in the sea a long the way. Perfick.

Room Tip: Room 38 and 20 great
