This place has been around for a while and I had wanted to try it. It relocated nearer my home and I had a restaurant.com certificate, so I found the opportunity. I knew in advance that it would not be my favorite eastern NC-style BBQ. I ordered a pound each of chopped pork and beef and planned to add my own seasoning. I didn't realize that the restaurant would add its homemade BBQ sauce to the order. The sauce is orange in color and I hoped that it would taste similar to SC-style sauce with a tangy mustard flavor. Unfortunately it was very sweet and not to my liking. The meat itself was nonfatty and chopped very fine and had a nice smoke flavor. The cook sings as he chops, very close to the ordering counter in this small establishment.
I can't speak to the other menu items, including ribs and chicken. The homemade potato salad was quite good with a nice pickle flavor. There is a small eat-in area. The location on busy West Bay Drive has limited parking. Service was restrained except for the singing in the back. I probably won't return here without the advantage of a restaurant.com certificate, and I'll ensure that the order is prepared without the BBQ sauce. The sauce is sold separately in bottles and is likely pleasing to those who prefer sweet sauce.
