I just spent two nights at this Westin while in town to attend a two day conference at UCF. While I did read the reviews here, as a Starwood Preferred Gold member I largely chose it based on my experience worldwide of staying in Starwood properties and especially Westins. This property did not let me down. The hotel is set on a busy thoroughfare in the Lake Mary/Heathrow area. There is a large "towne center" directly across the road that offers many retail shops, restaurants, a large movie complex and even a Publix supermarket. The hotel offers a Shula's Steak house and every amentiy that you would expect from a Westin property. I did not, however, eat any meals here as they were mostly provided by my conference at UCF. I did notice, however, that an "American" breakfast on the room "hang tag" was $20 so that by the time you add the charges for room service, tax etc. it would top out @ $30 - seemed a bit pricey for the location to me. There was a large fitness center on the ground floor of the hotel, the lobby area was crisp and exceptionally well maintained. The front desk staff was friendly though essentially "all business". The rooms are spacious, relatively quiet, quite well maintained and with the usual amentities of in room coffee, bathrobes, heavenly showers and beds, iron etc. The beds are very comfortable and the linens are excellent. The only possible complaints that I could offer are relatively minor and include: (1)the chain that raised and lowered the black out shade was broken though it was still operable in room 617, (2)the room felt muggy - and I have to assume thanks to unseasonal 3 days of heavy rains in the area. Parking and internet were both complimentary and quite adequate.
I would recommend this hotel for business travelers or couples but not somewhere that would be conducive, in my opinion, to a family with young'ish children. Another positive for me was the easy access to the 417 beltway less than a mile from the hotel and which provides for far less traffic than other Orlando thoroughfares even though you will drop a few $ on toll chares - well worth it to me.
This hotel is an easy 40 miles from Disney and probably 25-30 from Universal so it is decidedly not a destination if you are coming to Orlando to hit the theme parks.
I highly recommend this hotel as a top of the line Starwood property
