The Good: They accepted a hotel coupon from a travel book with no questions, so the rate we got was $30 less than the regular rate that night (and quite a good deal). This was also while almost every other hotel in town was totally booked. The front desk staff were very friendly at check in. We were through with check in very quickly. The outside of the hotel looks fine. It is very similar to many other hotels. They do have a little courtyard to one side of the hotel that is beautiful. There are several palm trees and little benches and bushes that look cute. Upon entering the room I was looking for a noticeable smell since we had to get a smoking room, but it actually didn't smell like smoke at all. Everything was very clean and in its proper place. The sheets, pillowcases, and towels were clean. I didn't look at the covers because I automatically take those off and discard them no matter where I go. The floors and carpets were clean as far as I could tell. The tv worked well and had a remote. The cable came in very well which is sometimes hard to find. The rooms have side doors in case you need adjoining rooms to accommodate a bigger group of people. The mattresses on the beds are ok. They aren't totally uncomfy or comfy either. There are new showerheads in the showers that work very well. They have different settings so you can change how the water flows out. The water pressure was quite nice, and we didn't have a problem with getting hot water (night or morning) even though the hotel was close to being full. We had plenty of towels and they left extras of certain things in the room just in case like towels, soap, and toilet paper. That is especially nice since some hotels only leave half a roll of toilet paper that doesn't even last a few hours in a room with 2-4 people. There was also an alarm clock, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, and a coffee maker in the room. The alarm clock did work, but we didn't try the other things. They all looked pretty new so I'm sure they worked as well. The whole room looked as if it was recently updated. The pool area was nice even though it was a bit small. The pool is open until 10 PM, but it was a little cold for a swim when we visited so we only sat by the pool for a few minutes and watched the sunset. The pool furniture is quite sturdy and somewhat comfy compared to the thin plastic chairs some other hotels have. The lobby of the hotel is nicely decorated, and they offer cookies and newspapers. The breakfast on the weekends lasts from 6:30 until 10 and has a good variety. They had four different kinds of juice, several different kinds of cereal, donuts, muffins, oatmeal, a few different kinds of coffee, toast, bagels, etc... Check out was quick as well.
The "Not so good": When I entered the bathroom I noticed the water in the tub was on and running a little bit. It was a little hard to get it to shut off, and it still continued to drip a little. There was a stain in the tub from the water flow, but that wasn't too bad. When you turned on the hot water in the sink it had a weird smell to it, but it wasn't like that in the shower thank goodness. I'm not sure what the smell was, but I wouldn't advise drinking the water from the sink faucet. The vending machines were out of order when we were there, but it is a short walk to a convenience store. The parking spaces are a little hard to manage in a single shot if there is a full lot. There is a steady noise of something that you can hear in the bathroom. I'm not sure what it was, but you can't hear it anywhere else except in the bathroom area. The springs in the mattresses are a little loud and you can feel them slightly when laying on the bed in certain ways.
Suggestions: Pick up a Florida hotel coupon book even if you don't plan on using the coupons. They provide you with maps and a lot of information about the area hotels such as amenities and locations. If you stay at the Comfort Inn in Lake City I would advise getting an even numbered room. They are on the side with the courtyard so you can see palms outside your window. The other side MAY be noisy since it is facing the interstate. I do not know that for a fact though since I stayed in an even numbered room. I would suggest going to breakfast either early or late because it can get quite crowded, but you can get stuff to go and take it back to your room.
