WORST CHECK IN EXPERIENCE EVER. We arrived at 1:30 at the hotel with reservation in hand. We were told that check in was at 2. There was no problem at this point and we decided to wait in the lobby for the 30 minutes to pass. Two customers, travelling together, came in about 10 minutes later with reservations, checked in, and went on their way. I dismissed this at the time and we continued to sit in the lobby. A third customer came in, with a reservation, checked in, and went on his way. At this point, it was 2 and I went to the counter. Meredith advised that the room I was assigned was not clean yet. I asked if we could simply change to another room as this is a suites hotel with identical rooms aside from bedding. She told me that the AAA rate I reserved with did not allow me to change to a different room and that I was going to be in a handicapped room. I explained that I did not need a handicapped room and did not request one. She stated that the hotel codes the AAA rate the same as the senior rate and specific rooms are assigned. She again told me I could not switch rooms and said that they hotel was very crowded this date and rooms were not available. I sat back down, trying to be patient as my children and wife looked on from the lobby. Another customer came in about 10 minutes after that and asked if there were any rooms available (he had no reservation). Guess what??? You got it, they checked him in and he went on his way. As the steam began to flow from my ears as a customer I was feeling very wronged, I approched the desk yet again. Meredith said oh, your room is ready now. We checked in and went to the room finally. At no point did she attempt to make us feel welcome at the hotel or even offer to have us sit in the lobby. I decided to do this after the abrupt "Check in is at 2, you will have to come back". When we sat down in the lobby, a house keeping employee was already sitting there watching tv. She seemed very irritated that we dare sit down and wait to check in, got up and stood by the counter with Meredith with a "gasp" of disgust. We have stayed here previously and were treated as you would expect, but they obviously have enougfh customers that they are not concerned about return business. Lake City has grown and there are now at least two newer hotels (Holiday Inn Express and another suites hotel we saw) available. I highly recommend you take your business else where especially if you rely on decent AAA rates to make reservations.
