“Great Family stay for Disney- AFVC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We stayed here as part of AFVC and could not have been happier. We had 3 children under 5 and had a great time, we stayed in a one bedroom. They offered us free breakfast to sit through a time share presentation but we declined (aint nobody got time for that) and they called one time during our stay to double check if we wanted to go and we again declined which they were not rude about. There was a grocery store close by to stock the kitchen. we were so close to Disney, we were able to go back to the hotel to take naps and return for the evening parade and fireworks. The bed was AMAZINGLY comfortable! I can't to plan our next trip!!

Star Island advertises about all the wonderful things they offer at their resort villas, without mentioning how hard it is to get around without walking a long ways, waiting for a golf cart type ride or driving your vehicle back to the main buildings or hailing an expensive cab. Their registration process is long and tedious. The villas are very nice and equipped with basics. They are clean, tidy and kept up well as well as the grounds. They offer Bingo, karaoke, a pool, tennis courts, mini golf, nightly dinners of different varieties, washer/dryer service, game room, sauna/spa services, for a fee massage and personal services. Their staff is very friendly and helpful. But don't come here if you don't like walking, or paying ridiculous prices in their little store by the pool.

We were introduced to Star island Resort by family members who were previous Wyndham Vacation Club owners. While out shopping at the Prime Outlets which are close by, we decided to tour the property for an upcoming birthday/holiday weekend getaway. Without seeing the rooms at that time, we were impressed with the lobby/guest services, pool and recreation areas, along with the overall upkeep of the property. We were able to book a room/suite for the holiday weekend at the last minute (within a week of the stay) with rates that I would call better than competitive. Before our stay I had looked up the resort online and here, to take at look at the rooms and amenities the property had to offer, and was pleased with our choice. Although the room they assigned us wasn't ready, we were given another room, which was on the ground floor, close to the pool and lobby areas. This location would have been great if it was higher up, but with the Florida wildlife and insects, having this room which backed up to the woods/trees, made it impossible to enjoy the patio, even with insect repellent and lamps/candles.

We had a two/three bedroom villa/suite (A & B units) with a master bedroom with jacuzzi tub, full living room with sectional, dining room, kitchen and washer/dryer. The second unit has a bedroom with 2 queen beds, separate living room with sleep sofa, a kitchenette and separate bathroom with a jetted tub. The units were well maintained, and included most of the basic amenities that was needed to enjoy a weekend, week or longer trip. The kitchens are fully stocked with cookware, eating and serving utensils and items to clean the dishes or to do laundry, and plenty of towels in the bathrooms. The were no problems with the unit with the exception of a broken door to to tv/stereo console, which we called about, and maintenance was aware of the problem, and removed the door until we checked out since it couldn't be fixed due to parts. The free wifi was a plus also, and we kept connectivity during the entire visit, along with getting schoolwork done online (A++++ for wifi service).

Several times we enjoyed the pool, and there was plenty of space in the pool for everyone, along with more than enough loungers for those wishing to sit poolside, or work on their tan. Since we came prepared for the weekend, we didn't go to the any of the bars or restaurants on site, but the bar waitress that works poolside could always be found making her rounds to see if you wanted a drink while we were outside. We didn't experience any problems with noise or adults or kids running wildly or drunk while here (for those who think and worry about such things, like me).

On the next to the last night of our stay, we thought that we should have booked until that Monday, as we enjoyed the rooms, property, and the closeness to everything we wanted to do. One member in our party went to the front desk to check on staying another day, and the resort accommodated our request, but we had to change rooms, and change it right then. I don't think we ever packed so fast, but it was worth it to us to make the change of rooms!!! Our second room was in one of the tower buildings, with a partially obstructed view of one of the lakes, the tennis courts, pools, and bars. This location was AWESOME!!!!!! We were now higher up so that we could not enjoy the balcony, and as a bonus, we could hear the music and karaoke from the bar, along with several fireworks displays from the amusement park areas. This unit had the same amenities as the first, but didn't have a washer/dryer (laundry room on first floor), it had a sleep sofa instead of sectional in the main unit, along with two side/club chairs. Everything else was the same, and the condition of the units were well maintained like the first.

This property is one that I will be using in the future, if possible. We did attend a timeshare presentation by Wyndham, but decided not to buy into the timeshare/vacation club due to cost, financing interest rate, and the lack of a connection with our salesman. With that said, first impressions are everything, and in some cases, it is hard to recover from a bad first impression, which was the case with our timeshare/vacation club salesman (reminded me of a shady care salesman. Enough said!!!).

It would be remiss of me not to make note here of an issue that occurred while staying here. An gentleman checked in/stayed in our building driving a well maintained, older white Bentley (we arrived at the same time when we changed rooms). On the last night/morning of our stay, someone had written on his trunk and rear quarter panels in black and blue spray paint, along with flattening one of his rear tires. The management staff were onsite, along with the gentlemen when we were checking out to address the vandalism. I don't know of the circumstances in which it occurred, but it did occur on this property, and was the only incident we were knowledgeable about here. There were other cars on the property, but none carried the prestige or value of this vehicle, which could have been random, etc.

Thanks for a great holiday weekend, and hopefully we'll be able to come back and stay at Star island Resort without being Wyndham vacation club owners.

Very pretty resort in the middle of an increasingly depressed section of Orlando. Nicely appointed rooms and a sexy master bedroom. Lots of squirrels. Beautiful trees all over. We are pretty critical and we will return. Great tennis courts so bring your racquet!

After driving 14 hours with 2 young children in tow, we arrived and spent almost 20 minutes checking in; not because it was crowded or busy but because once we checked in and received a room key, we had had to go to a different location to get our parking pass...which was the beginning of the timeshare hustle to sell. Then, locked out twice, rude front desk, lies from staff, mold on ceiling in room...checked out early and will not return.

5 of us just spend a week at Star Island Wyndham in a three bedroom unit. The resort was very nice with two pools, a putting green, a mini golf, beach and paddle boats. Other than the pool, we did not use the other facilities because we were off to Disney parks all seven days. There is no restaurant on the premises but there is a TGIF at the entry which service delicious salads and burgers for lunch. There are also lots of food options along Rt. 192 a very commercial strip. Star Island, although on 192 is set back and the long drive and guard booth separate it from the strip. The unit was filled with excellent kitchen equipment and we were able to prepare breakfast and a couple of meals there too.

Room Tip: Away from the pool if you want quiet....as there is a DJ playing most of the day and there is Karaok...
