“Decent size for family stay...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

We stayed one bedroom apartment for a week with family. We enjoyed the stay, it has full kitchen and good size of living room. The only issue noticed was you can hear lots of noises from next door. It is very close to many restaurants and disney parks.

Lerilee Carfagna and Mildred Alvarado were especially helpful at the front desk. They went beyond my expectations in helping me with a particularly perplexing computer issue. This was in addition to the regular duties of getting us into our room with a minimum of fuss.

We stayed at this resort during the week of New Year's. We were the guests of family members who have time share through Wyndham. This is the second time we've done a reunion style trip with them using Wyndham time-share deal, and in my opinion, they have paid thousands and received very little......however, this is not my decision!

The front desk people at this resort were very rude and not helpful whatsoever. At the end of our trip we had several family members with canceled flights due to the awful weather that hit and they were not accommodating or helpful AT ALL -- I thought this was the beauty of staying in a time-share rather than a hotel?
The resort itself is old......no amount of slapped on paint and front landscaping can cover up the fact that it needs a major rehab! We had 2, "3 bedroom" condos; each one consisted of a King bedroom (complete with 80's-style jacuzzi wide open in the middle of the room!), a bedroom with 2 double beds and a front room with a pull-out queen sofa. I'm told the front rooms are sometimes "locked-out" and used as 1 bedroom studios. The showers in the shared bathroom for the rest of the condo are ridiculous -- they were over-sized tubs that were quite high off of the ground with sliding glass doors. They were awful to get in and out of -- in fact, quite dangerous for even the young and fit to get in and out of, much less the 60-up crowd!! The mattresses were terrible and no one slept well. It was quite noisy and all in all, we were not happy at all. I consider our family to be quite easy-going and we generally, don't sweat the small stuff if a place is CLEAN. This was not -- it was pretty gross, and for our budget, we expected way more!
Good customer service could have helped, but the attitudes we experienced made it worse!
Orlando lodgings are way too competitive to waste your time here!

This is an ok resort compared to Bonnet Creek as that is where we normally stay. The entrance is beautiful as well as pool area however it stops there. The grounds are lacking flowers and color which was a huge bummer coming from the north in the cold. The "b" side room was spacious however the lighting was horrible. Layout of master bedroom had a lot of wasted space with mirrors all over the walls. You had to make sure the bedroom door was always locked when you were showering or getting ready otherwise anyone in the living room would see you. Side "A" was ok however dark, beds are doubles not queens and in the extra room when the sofa is pulled out there isn't any extra room. We were located in bldg 28 first floor which was nice as we were close to pool and other activities yet far enough that we weren't hearing all of the noise by the pool and nightclub. The water activities were closed the week we were there so we couldn't use them at all. Location to Disney area was close, about 15 mins to Magic Kingdom and even less to Downtown Disney. Also, there are way too many tennis courts. The most we ever saw being used it 2, and they could really use lazy rivers or other water amenities like other Wyndham Resorts have. Also the large blow up slide is $2 per time. In the 8 days we were there we didn't see a single person go down. Might want to look into changing something with the use of it. Kids loved the basketball courts and bounce house.

Room Tip: Ask to be close to main area yet no too close otherwise it will be loud all day from music by the po...

We had the opportunity to stay at Star Island over the holidays. The complex is quite large and has a number of things to do, such as but not limited to do, swimming, hot tub, game room, mini golf, playground, and ping pong. There are also a number of aquatic activities like swan boats, but the weather was not cooperative, so we weren't able to try it out.

The kids had a great time (ages 11, 10, and two 7 y.o.) at the pool. There were quite a few activities at the pool for the whole family, some of which had prizes if you won.

The room in which we had was clean. We did have a problem when we checked in because we had reserved a 1 bedroom with a lockout (another 1 bedroom with a kitchenette) and the front desk didn't realize this. Therefore, it took us about an hour or so to get it situated before we had both rooms. The kids used the smaller area as their "apartment".

Overall, the resort was decent and everyone had a good time.

Btw, there is a Publix and a Walmart close by so you can stock up on groceries for your stay.

Room Tip: Make sure your reservation actually matches what the front desk gives you for your room.

My family of four stayed with my 72 year old mom at Star Island from Dec. 28 to Jan.3 as part of my mom’s timeshare with RCI. Overall the trip was pleasant with only one major bump. This was not the fault of Star Island but rather the overly aggressive Wyndham / RCI timeshare sales people.

The good – The room was huge. It slept the 5 of us very comfortably and could have accommodated at least one more. The concierge was helpful and the pool area kept us entertained as best as they could in late December. The front desk staff was not the friendliest but they were extremely busy. The rest of the staff was pleasant and helpful. Chase is one of the bartenders who provided exceptional service. He is knowledgeable, friendly and an all-around nice guy.

The bad – DO NOT sign up to take one of their timeshare tours. Don’t let them talk you into going no matter what they promise you. My wife and I flatly refused but my 72 year old mother (who already owns RCI) went on the tour since they were offering a $125 gift card. The Wyndham staff gave her the hard sell but she was persistent in her refusal. However, the presentation was not on the property and my mom has 2 replaced knees. When she signed up for the presentation she was assured that the staff would drive her to and from it. This changed quickly when they discovered that she was not going to upgrade no matter how hard they pushed. After 3 hours (she can’t sit that long) they finally took her back to where she started. She then asked for her gift card and was told that she had to walk to get it. When she mentioned the promised ride she was told twice that “we don’t do that.” The Wyndham people promised her a ride but it is Star Island that owns all of the vehicles. Wyndham was making promises that they could not keep nor were they even authorized to make them. Again her persistence paid off but only after confronting the manager and staff to get her promised rides. It was the nice folks of Star Island and not Wyndham that helped save her tired knees.

It is important to note that the Star Island staff is not the same as the overly aggressive Wyndham timeshare sales people. Our unpleasant experience was with Wyndham. We enjoyed our stay at Star Island and will consider returning.

My mom is 72 years old and I know that I will one day inherit her RCI timeshare. Based on this experience I will be unloading that timeshare as soon as possible.
