Love this resort! This is our third trip here and we had no complaints at all. The 2-bedroom unit we were in was clean, well furnished and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. We were in Building 25 and we did not get the morning or afternoon sun on our patio which made it very comfortable because it was 90 degrees. It is only about a 10 minute drive to Disney and so many choices of restaurants so very close. The pool is fantastic especially for children and the putt-putt golf is a nice addition. We refuse to attend the timeshare sales pitches because we already own 2 timeshares elsewhere - South Carolina and Blowing Rock, NC. We will definitely be back again!

Well-maintained grounds; pleasant check-in experience; easy check-out, OK workout gym - and that about ends the positives. The condo is definitely large enough - kitchen was well equipped if with older, lower-end appliances. The carpet was so damp that a fan had to be brought it and ran for the 8 days we were there - never completely dried out; the place had a vaguely smoke-like and musty smell mixed with some kind of cooking that also did not diminish over the time we were there - always equally strong every time we entered. Black mould on the ceiling part of the shower that started out as just a few small areas and was about 25% of the shower ceiling area by the time that we left - front desk person was completely indifferent and unresponsive when notified of this on check out. Would have asked for another room but we were out from early morning until later in the evening every day - visiting attractions in the area - so just put up with it. The washer/dryer were just fine - just noisy - although barely noticed above the sound of the constant fan. The grounds and common areas are very well-maintained.

Booked Star Island through RCI and I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed in Unit 19 on the 6th floor. We were far enough away from the karaoke noise but only 2-3 minutes from the pool and reception area.

The rooms were clean and well equipped for cooking. The furniture was older but not dirty or worn out. Pool was clean and lawn chairs were in good condition.

Overall, good resort. It was by no means luxery but would rate a solid 3.5 to 4 Star in DR, Cuba or Mexico.

The resort is only minutes away from Target, Walmart, Publix foods, Whole Foods, mini golf, outlet shopping etc.

Room Tip: -bring own pool towl, the ones provided were a bit scratchy -ask for room away from Karaoke and on...

I originally found Star Island Resort through the Armed Forces Vacation Center. The price that I was able to book this hotel at was AMAZING! The reviews on Star Island varied quite a bit so I was very apprehensive about staying there. However, I think overall it is the luck of the draw. Let me clarify some points: The reason I did not give this resort 5 stars is because of the noise factor. Karaoke is exceptionally loud if you are in one of the closer buildings. Also, if you have the misfortune to have neighbors, expect to hear a lot of what they say. I was fortunate enough to be in the best building I probably could have been in, # 21. Due to the drive, it seemed very far from the entrance, but it turns out there is a walking path "shortcut" that takes you right up to the tennis courts, through the back of the mini golf course, and right up to the pool. My boyfriend and I could easily walk over to the pool bar for drinks without having to worry about driving afterwards. Now, the pool is BEAUTIFUL! There are two separate sections, both very clear, crisp and clean. The section closest to the bar surprised me- it was sooo warm. I went swimming at least three times in the week and I have African American hair, which is saying something! The Jacuzzi in the 1 bedroom suite was amazing and it got very hot, the bed was so big and comfy! The front desk staff was very polite and courteous. I even left my glasses at the pool overnight and found them safely there the next morning. There were great places for photography, a dock for fishing, little tiki huts in the sand, the wedding altar backed by a beautiful lake. There was plenty of friendly wildlife; squirrels, ducks, cranes, deer. It was all a very magical experience. The location is great- a few miles away WalMart, Dollar Tree(which is great for getting little items you only need for a week) and of course, Waffle House, which is amazing. For recommendations on some of the surrounding places to eat, take a look at some of my other reviews!

I had stayed here back in 2007 while on a trip with a friend and it was great. Fast forward to 2013, and I was very disappointed. Upon walking in our room, we were greeted with a musty, damp smell. After coming back from a swim and hanging up our suits to dry, 24 hours later, they were still soaking and we had to dry them with a hair dryer (we were not aware of the laundry facilities). The dampness and musty smell was so awful, we barely were able to stay in the room and were glad we packed allergy medication. The bathroom was filthy: blood smear on the wall, mirror extremely dirty and cracked/peeling plaster above shower.

Luckily we spent very little time in our room.

The proximity to the parks and attractions is great, but going to any store/restaurant within the mile or two around the resort is risky; it is not a nice area. There are many shady characters just hanging around shops and restaurants and while eating at TGIFridays one night, the cops had to come and arrest someone. Disturbing

The only redeeming part of the "resort" is the pool area which is nice and comfortable with plenty of lounge chairs and entertainment. The pool bar is a nice touch, but ridiculously overpriced, better just to pour your own drink in your room and bring it with you. 10$ for a drink at a place like this???? I don't think so.

Next time, we will not be coming back. For the amount we paid and the quality of the room, we could've just paid for a cheap motel.

Resort is approximately 4 miles from the Disney parks. Plenty of restaurants & shopping can be found in the immediate area. Resort accommodations are very nice and resort staff is helpful.
Swimming pool area has a bar and a separate area to obtain/return towels. There is a small convenience store and spa facilities are also available.

Room Tip: One and 2 bedroom units usually have a washer/dryer combo. plus patio.
