“Better than most”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

My wife and I stayed there along with our son for his 6th birthday. The resort is nice and there is a large pool area including a hot tub and poolside bar. Some of the pool was under repair and it was a little cool, so we didn't use the pool. We also spent most of our time at the resorts. I will say one word of warning. Some of the A and B suites share their HVAC system. I guess most of the year this isn't an issue but if you happen to be there when the weather is transitioning be prepared for a battle. If the A side wants heat and the B side wants A/C you will be in for a battle. We came back from a long day at a park only to discover our room too hot and no ability to turn off the heat. After two calls and two visits from maintenance and some strange explanations they actually disconnected the heat around midnight. This worked fine for us but apparently froze the older couple next door. They were back to connect the heat in the morning which made things uncomfortable for us. They ended up relocating the couple next to us. When I complained, the manager on duty was actually a little indignant about the situation and offered nothing to compensate us for being up 'til midnight after a long day at a park with our 6 year old.

Star Island is a great resort with fun for everyone. We have been going to Star Island for many years and each year it seems to get better. Things to involved everyday if you want and nightly entertainment. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Clean rooms.

I am so glad that I've read the reviews here to help us get the nice accommodations. When we arrived, I immediately asked for a B side suite on a higher floor in a quiet location with a washer/dryer. We were assigned on the 5th floor in building # 20 overlooking a small pond. It was a very nicely updated suite/furnishings with a full kitchen. Hubby and I especially enjoyed the use of the jacuzzi during most of our stay.

If you plan on staying for an extended period, you will have to purchase your own supplies for dishwashing liquid, laundry soap, hair shampoo/conditioner, etc. when you run out. For stays at least 7 nights, they swapped out the towels for fresh ones during the middle of the week but don't expect any daily housekeeping unless you're willing to pay for it. The biggest draw backs were being far away from the pools and the internet connection was very flaky but overall, it was great.

Room Tip: Pick a B side updated suite on a higher floor away from the pool area. They are nicer and quieter...

Did a quick getaway and chose Star Island Resort for our getaway. We were very pleasantly surprised just how nice this resort is! We chose a One bedroom Deluxe Suite and were thrilled with it. It was very clean and loved the in room jacuzzi! The resort was very well kept and not noisy at all! The staff were very nice and no pressure to view any timeshares.

Room Tip: Deluxe 1 bedroom has a full kitchen, separate bedroom and a nice balcony that opens from the bedroom...

We traded into Star Island, for a week at WDW/Universal. The resort is nice, as long as you don’t get a 1 Bedroom Lockout (A). We had a 2 Bedroom which is 2 lock out 1 bedrooms and can be used a 3 bedroom because of the 2nd living room has a pullout couch. Our group was 3 people and it was almost too much space.
The check in process was a bit odd you check in the Star Island front desk, and then have to go over to the Wyndam Desk to get parking pass and various other things. The Hotel's grounds were nice enough but it seemed to me they were nickel and diming about everything.
They served dinner every night but you had to pay 5 or 6 dollars, everything on the property, Golf Range, Waterslide all cost extra. It was fine with me because we were there for the Parks anyway.

Room Tip: Make sure you are far from Pool and Karoke Bar... and make sure to ask if the unit has full or parit...

The room was clean and nicely appointed. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the big whirlpool tub, but there wasn't enough hot water to refill it for us afterwards.

The two pools are smaller (I've seen better pools in the area) but the mini-golf was free and the kids won free ice cream by the pool. There were a lot of family friendly activities and we all enjoyed the property.

At check-in they sent me to another desk for a map to our room where we were blindsided by a pitch for time share. I was not thrilled and it was very poor timing as the kids were antsy to get to the room and change for the pool.

The property was nice, but I've seen better pricing for the same type of property in Kissimmee.

Stayed for 10 nights and felt like I was in my first apartment for my much younger days. Know what I mean?? Old low quality furnishings, very thin walls, and filthy yucky carpeting. Also, housekeeping is NOT included. Costs extra. This property needs a major overhaul. Oh, I forgot to mention the bugs and other little things flying around inside the room. I had bites on my body each morning. Pass on this place!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.
