I have just returned today from an 8 night stay at the Orbit One Vacation Villas. This was our first trip to Florida and I booked a stay at the Orbit One based on the high ratings in Tripadvisor, as well as the great deal I got on the flight/hotel/car rental with Expedia.
We arrived at the hotel at about 11.45pm on July 21st, and found the Front Desk/Lobby area closed. Turns out that the Front Desk closes at 11pm and if you arrive after that time, the security guard checks you in. Michael was the security guard who checked us in, and I found him to be very friendly and welcoming.
Our first impression of our suite when we walked in was "wow". We were very impressed with the 2 bedrooms, the large jacuzzi and shower in the master bedroom, the spaciousness of the living and dining areas, as well as how well appointed the kitchen was. Unfortunately, the "wow" first impression that we had did not last. Here's why.....
Our room was on the 3rd (top) floor of the Venus building, and for some unknown reason, they built a skylight into the ceiling of the master bedroom, without providing black-out drapes/curtains to block the early morning summer sunrise, which made the bedroom very bright by about 6am in the morning!! We typically sleep in, in the mornings and did not appreciate being awoken so early in the morning. So, I went in to the Front Desk the next morning, and spoke to the Agent on duty - to get a room change, as we did not want to spend the next 7 days being awoken at 6am everyday. She was not helpful or sympathetic to our situation, and refused to provide us with a room change, despite there being a number of guests who were checking out that day.
In addition, my wife found 3 spiders and 2 cockroaches in the master bedroom, and that sort of spooked her out. We ended up sleeping in the 2nd bedroom most days with my son, and barely used the master bedroom for the duration of the trip. However, there was a loud humming sound that could be heard when we were in the 2nd bedroom, so it was a less than comfortable solution.
Another point I wanted to share was their WIFI service. I paid $29.99 for 1 week of WIFI, and felt ripped off. The WIFI signal was spotty and poor, and you could get at most about 1/2-1hr worth of slow WIFI per day. The rest of the time, there was either no signal or the internet was so very slow, you would be waiting for a long time just for a page to load up. I ended up requesting a refund for the WIFI but again, my request fell on deaf ears. Despite the fact I paid for WIFI, I found myself at the nearby McDonalds quite often to get free WIFI to check my emails and Facebook.
Other comments: Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was poor. Location, while close to Disney, was no better than a lot of the other hotels in the Orlando area. There are so many hotels all around Disney, Universal and Seaworld, so most hotels would be well located. The one drawback I found staying in Kissimmee was that it seems that Highway 192 was the main road into the area so at about 10-11pm when most people are returning to their hotels, that road can get pretty congested.
So, in summary, the Orbit One Vacation Villas may have received high marks from a number of Tripadvisor reviewers, but for us, it turned out to be a terrible experience and we were so glad to check out today.
