We have been staying at Lifetime of Vacations every year since 1997. What we love most about this resort is that it is small. Not the rooms, they are nice and roomy, but the resort itself. When we look out our back door, we see a beautiful lake and gorgeous old trees dripping with Spanish Moss. You don't get views like that at anywhere else.
My husband loves to fish on the lake, and this year he caught quite a few fish. My four year old caught a small mouth bass. They provide the fishing poles, boats and life jackets. They have row boats, a canoe, and a few paddle boats. This year there was a new paddle boat with a nice canopy on it. The lake was very low this year, the lowest we've ever seen it. Hopefully they will get some more rain, and it will be up again next year.
The resort was updated a few years ago, and overall I like the updates. However, our room no longer has a table for the family to sit at. There is a bar along one wall, and we all have to sit there, which is a bit awkward. There use to be carpet in the living room and bedrooms, but the carpet was replaced with ceramic tile in the living room. The carpet was absolutely filthy before, so this is probably a good idea, but if you drop anything on the floor it will shatter immediately. The vertical blinds that use to be line the front wall of the living room and the door in the bedroom (and offered NO privacy!) have been replaced with nice heavy drapes and shears. The curtains can easily get stuck in the door if you are not careful, but it is a GREAT improvement over the vertical blinds that anyone could see through.
There is a full kitchen in the rooms. This includes a stove AND an oven! There is also a microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot, electric can opener and toaster. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, cooking utensils, cookware and baking dishes. Last year when we went, we noticed the new kitchen cabinets were melting above the stove. This year we noticed that they had been fixed.
There are also grills outside that you can use to cook out on. Last year, the grill near our room was so full of holes, my husband had to use one quite far from our room. This year, the grills had been replaced with new ones.
There is a nice large TV in the living room, with a DVD player, and a smaller TV in the bedroom I believe there is a VCR in the bedroom as well. There is a pull out couch and a Murphy bed in the living room, so the room we have sleeps 6.
This year the room looked very clean, except for black marks on the ceramic tile, which then got onto our socks. I'm not sure what might have caused the black marks, but I decided to scrub them off one afternoon. It wasn't hard to do. While doing that, I noticed that there was quite a bit of food and dirt build up between the refrigerator and wall. Nothing that made me go "EEEWWW" but, it wouldn't have taken much for someone to clean it.
There is a large whirlpool tub in the bathroom that is nice, but there is a suction thing under the water that is really too strong. Especially with little kids, it can really make a mark on your legs and buttock if you are not careful. I would also be careful of rinsing your hair while the jets are on, I would think it would be easy to get your hair stuck in it, which could be quite dangerous.
The shower is a steam shower, which is sort of nice, but the door has not shut properly on it since we've been staying there. And, if you are just taking a regular shower, it gets very steamy and hot in there, because the door is well sealed!
There is an internet room at the resort now. In the past I have seen employees in there using the internet instead of being at the front desk. This year, I never saw them in there, and there was always someone at the front desk. All of the employees were very friendly this year as well. There is also WI-FI access in the lobby, so you can bring your laptop there to connect to the internet. You can also get a weak single in the rooms, which I did quite often this year.
One thing I do not like is that they make you get a parking pass. Which, is not a bad thing, but, to get the parking pass you have to go to someone who is trying to get you to go through a tour of another timeshare! However, this lady is always very nice, and gives you a little bag of Starbuck's coffee. This year, there were three other people lined up to get the parking pass when I went there. They say if you don't have the pass in your car window, they will tow your car away. Given some past experiences with this resort, I tend to believe they might just actually do that.
The resort has activities during the week such as making sundaes (there was a small charge for this), makeovers, movie nights and specials at local restaurants. We don't usually participate in these, but it is a nice friendly touch.
The pool is large and clean. There are nice deck chairs around the pool, to lounge on. There usually aren't many people in it when we go, but it could accommodate quite a few.
There are tennis and basketball courts as well as shuffle board. All equipment can be obtained for free at the front desk. There is also a workout room. It's air conditioned, but you usually need to turn it on yourself.
There are coin operated washers and dryers in the buildings as well. For the last few years, the dryer upstairs in the 300 building has not been working properly (it takes FOREVER to dry clothes) and it is still not fixed. An outside operating company owns the washers and dryers, so all the resort could do was tell them about it. So, I lost $1.50 in the dryer. I told the front desk to tell the company I wanted my money back, but I never heard from them. I don't know if they put a sign on the dryer after I told them it wasn't working properly this year, but it has been like this for years, so I have my doubts that it will actually get fixed.
There is a little playground with swings and slides for the kids. The equipment is a little tall for this paranoid mother, but the kids love it! The playground is under some nice trees, so it is shaded.
There are several members of the maintenance staff that have been working here since we started coming. They act like they remember us, and are always very friendly. If you tell the front desk something is wrong and don't get a response, find one of them and they are always more than happy to help you out.
I highly recommend taking pictures of your room so as not to be charged for extra cleaning charges after you leave. And, make sure you report any problems you have with the room as soon as you find them.
Overall, we love this resort, and look forward to staying there every year. It is right on 192, but it is quiet and very safe. You can see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom at night. And, you are only minutes from Animal Kingdom, if you take the back way.
