A few weeks ago, I was in Orlando for business, and had a free night. I have some friends in the area, so I suggested we get together for dinner, and they suggested Old Hickory Steakhouse. I'd not heard much about the restaurant, but I had heard wonderful things about the resort in which it was located - I’d yet to have a chance to check out the Gaylord Palms, but am I ever glad that got the chance, and also that to please my palate at Old Hickory. This isn't just an excellent hotel restaurant - it's a great restaurant for any venue. The atmosphere is whimsical and elegant both at the same time, located in the Everglades of the Gaylord Palms. The service was good, but not perfect. The food, however, was wonderful. I sampled the Pear and Gorgonzola Tart appetizer - a wonderful blend of flavors. Then, for my entree, I tried the Buffalo, which intrigued me. It was my first experience, but lived up to the waiter's promise that if I was a fan of Filet Mingon, I would love the Buffalo, and find it even more tender. For dessert, I couldn't resist a Chocolate Soufflé, though I was very tempted to try the cheese course, the first of its kind in Florida. Overall, the entire experience was awesome. Friendly, professional service. Awesome environment. And most importantly, terrific food. I'll *definitely* be back.
