“Pretty Good Stay”

Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Orlando-Lake Buena Vista East

Jun 3, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for four nights on a business trip in May 2008. Overall, the hotel was nice. The room, including the bathroom, was very clean. The decor was nice with a Floridian touch. High ceilings made the room feel larger. There were a few things that could have been better though. First of all, if you like a very hard bed, this hotel is for you. The bed was extra, extra firm and very uncomfortable! I didn't sleep well the entire stay. Secondly, the water at the hotel was nasty. Even the smell was disgusting...strong sulfur, rotten egg smell. I had to use bottled water to brush my teeth, and you could taste the water in the breakfast food they served. My colleague also complained about the water. Third, my room was on the first floor which I liked because it was convenient. However, there was a HUGE spotlight in the flower bed outside the window that shone directly into the window. This was very annoying because I felt like my room was lit up like an airport runway! The second night of my stay, some people checked in to the room next to me. The walls must have been paper thin because I heard the man's entire phone conversation. I could tell he was talking in a normal voice, but the walls did not keep any of the sound out. Also, it sounded like someone was pacing the floor for hours in the room above me, which was very distracting because the ceiling was squeaking and creaking. The hotel staff was really polite. The hotel was in a nice area. There was a super Wal-Mart next door which was convenient. Also, there were tons of restaurants and shopping only a few miles away. The hotel was not very busy, which we liked because it made parking easy to find, etc. For the price, I think the stay was pretty good, but it could have been better overall.

“Satisfied with this hotel”

Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Orlando-Lake Buena Vista East

Apr 12, 2008

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights, March 15-21. We found the hotel staff to be friendly, and the room to be very clean and comfortable. We paid $83/night.

This hotel is conveniently located, quick drive to the parks or to the Crossroads area. A gas/convenience store is within walking distance, and Walmart Supercenter is across the street. This hotel sits by itself, and has a wooded area behind it.

Parking -- We didn't always get to park in the best spot, but we never had trouble finding a parking spot.

Pool -- The pool was nicely heated, and had a sitting ledge inside all the way around the pool. The hot tub was hot and there was a very small children's playset on turf nearby. The pool area was nicely landscaped and had plenty of lounge chairs. The pool seemed to always have leaves in the bottom. Pool towels were sometimes available in a bin by the pool, and sometimes you had to ask for them at the front desk.

There was a small workout room with a few machines and a business center with 2 computers.

Room -- We had 2 queen beds and ample space, a small closet with hangers, standard dresser, tv, table, etc. The first afternoon, we returned around 3-4pm and the room had not been cleaned yet. We were told it was because they had so many check-outs that morning. Most days we returned to our room between 2-3 and the room had been cleaned. Another day later in the week the room was not cleaned when we returned. NOTE: The sheets were not changed at all during the week. The bathroom was always kept clean and new toiletries were left daily. We had the best mini-refrigerator in this room. Our drinks were kept very cold -- there was even ice in a water bottle at one point. There was a tiny freezer compartment also.

Noise -- I've read a lot of reviews about the thin walls. We only had a noise problem on 1 out of our 7 nights. The family next door decided to have a good rowdy time that night from about 10pm-1am, lots of laughing & shouting.

Breakfast -- Only served 7-10. It would be helpful if they started serving breakfast at 6. We like to get up & out early. The breakfast was okay. I think all the hot items were just freeze & heat (think TV dinner-quality). The hot items alternated: scrambled eggs or cheese omelets; sausage or bacon (both good); biscuits with sausage gravy; assorted breads, juices, instant oatmeal, mini-muffins. There were toast-your-own waffles but not a waffle maker. On Friday of that week, we went down to breakfast at 7am and NOTHING was out yet. One girl was setting out the coffee dispenser. I had toast that morning. A lot of people were angry, some guy had a business meeting at 8 and was very upset that he wasn't getting breakfast and was having to settle for just coffee. We found out that the main worker did not show up or call in. By 7:30 the hotel manager arrived to help and he pulled in the guy I had previously seen dipping leaves from the pool to help. When we left the hotel at 7:45, they were starting to put out some hot items. This was the only day this happened. The breakfast area had plenty of tables.

Problems/Complaints:
1. Sheets not getting changed
2. Breakfast the last morning
3. Security or landscape light shined up at our window, making it very bright in our room. (I like a dark room.) Because of this, I woke up several times throughout the night, thinking it was daylight. After the 3rd night of this, I pulled the extra blanket every night and piled it on top of the curtain road. This helped a lot.
4. Wake-up call. We had an early flight out and needed to be at the airport at 5am. We set our alarm and also requested a wake-up call. Luckily, the alarm worked because the wakeup call never came.

Overall, we would stay here again, but we would still look around for other hotels and better rates. I would not want to pay the usual $130/night for this hotel.

“Friendly Staff, Convenient Location--But noisy hotel”

Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Orlando-Lake Buena Vista East

Apr 8, 2008

I got this hotel when I booked on Hotwire. I got a pretty good (read: low) rate, so I won't be too harsh, but I would not pay full rate for this hotel. I stayed here with my family for 5 nights for our Disney vacation. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on a hotel because we planned to stay in the parks all day. Hence the reason for finding a low-priced hotel on Hotwire.

The Negatives: The rooms are small, have very thin walls and floors/ceilings so noise from next door or above is a big issue. There were tours of kids in the hotel while we were there and was very noisy at night. Also, Housekeeping cleaned our room everyday, but the cleanliness of the bathroom was suspect at times, especially the tub and floor.

Otherwise, the good points of this hotel are: Free limited hot breakfast, free High-Speed Internet, free parking and the hotel has a pool and fitness center. I didn't use any of the services above except eating breakfast 2 days and parking my vehicle. Beware of other rude guests in the morning taking more than they need at breakfast leaving little for others in line. I would recommend hitting the breakfast early to avoid that situation! I stayed during Spring Break and there were large tour groups in the hotel so maybe that only happens when groups are there. Another good point is that the entire staff was very friendly. I did not meet a single rude or indifferent employee. I think this is a family owned and operated hotel, so that might be part of the reason, but not all the employees are related. The friendliness was in their service culture.

The hotel is only about 5 miles from Disney World and 2.5 miles from Downtown Disney/Lake Buena Vista cross roads area, so it is convenient. Would I stay there again? Probably not despite all the positives listed above due to the negative reasons I listed. But for the low price I paid on Hotwire, it could have been worse. Thankfully it wasn't.

“Loved it”

Its a newer building located hardly 5 minutes from Disney.

Goods:
> Less than 5 minutes from Disney (great location if you'll be visiting Disney)
> About 2 miles off I-4 Exit
> Very clean rooms and bathrooms
> Internet access in the room (cable provided)
> Standard break-fast

Bads:
> We stayed there for only one night and didn't find any. But if I had to point out one, I would say it was a bit pricey at $81 a day. One could easily find a 3 star hotel in Orlando around International Dr for around $60 on Hotwire.
