“Fun place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

My sister and I stayed here for a week in September. We chose the Little Mermaid section as it was just the two of us and it was away from the "party pool" area. The complex is well designed and very colourful. Our room was on the fourth floor, overlooking the lake that separates Art of Animation from Pop Century resort. While not huge, it was big enough for us and we had plenty of space to put our stuff. We don't spend a lot of time in the room anyway. The decor was whimsical and fun. The rooms are very clean as is the entire area. I had read reviews that the walk was very long to Animation Hall where the food court eating area is located. Really? No. It was maybe a 5 minute walk. If one cannot take that, then the parks will be brutal.

The food court area, Landscape of Flavours, is quite large. There are four different "stations" where you can get your food. We only used it for breakfast so I can't comment on lunches or dinners. The food was pretty good. They have everything from muffins, cereal, and fruit cups, to pancakes, bacon and eggs or breakfast sandwiches. There's a good variety. It does get busy but we typically had breakfast around 7am. It wasn't too busy at that time. One day we went later and it was very busy.

Buses will take you to the various parks and they run about every 20 minutes. There's a fairly large waiting area and signs clearly mark the parks.

There are three pools. We used the quiet pool at the Little Mermaid section. The main pool was always very busy and too noisy for our tastes.

Overall, I found the stay here very enjoyable and staff very friendly. I had created an online account that managed our reservation and discovered we would be testing the new "Magic Band" system Disney is implementing. By checking online early enough, we were able to customise our bands by selecting the colour and having our name put on them. These Magic Bands acted as our room key, park admission tickets, FastPass+ passes for certain rides, and room charging card. We also got a card we could use if we wanted to. They were very easy to use. Also, you can check in with the hotel up to 60 days in advance of your arrival. We did this and upon our arrival at the hotel, our welcome package was ready and waiting for us. A woman armed with her iPad came up to us and took our name. She brought up our reservation on the iPad and said she'd be right back. A few minutes later, she was back with our welcome package. No waiting in the line at the desk. She went over everything with us. The whole process was less than 10 minutes.

I usually don't stay at the same place twice when I visit Disney World but for my next trip, I think I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Hourglass Lake are away from the courtyard and noise. Very quiet area. Check in o...

Art of Animation Resort is classified as a 'value (read "low cost") resort hotel' by Disney World. We stayed for a week and used the hotel as our base for not only the Disney experience but also for exploring Florida. Transport to and from Orlando International Airport was complimentary and very handy. We had a family suite in the Finding Nemo accommodation block (there are also Little Mermaid, Lion King and Cars accommodation areas as part of the complex). The family suite had a master bedroom with a queen bed (and ensuite), and the lounge/living areas had a double sleeper sofa and a double 'table bed' (my first experience with one of those) with another bathroom. There was free Wi-Fi. The first three days we used the complimentary buses to visit the four non-water theme parks - Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney Hollywood. We rented a car for the next three days and did three day trips - to Tampa (West Florida), NASA & St. Augustine (East Florida). There was plenty of parking spaces available at the resort. The complimentary wheelchair loan was particularly handy for my mother-in-law during the day trips. We didn't make use of the pool but it is quite a large one. It closes when storms are in the area (in case of lightning strikes). The bed was comfortable but having to unfold the sofa and table beds each night was a pain. It had a sink, microwave and a small refrigerator. There was also a safe that we made use of. The practice of providing a porter to help with luggage when booking into the hotel but not providing the same on booking out of the hotel struck us as a bit strange. There is a business centre with computers and printers on site and a souvenir shop as well. The room was made up each day with no problems. There is a sort of food court in the main building that provides meals and drinks. If you are used to USA food there is no problem with the selection and provision of meals. Buy a 'bottomless refill' cup if you drink a lot of coffee or soft drink, it will be cheaper in the long run. Even though a 'value resort hotel' the cost per night was still pretty steep, but then you are paying for the convenience of the Disney experience. If for some reason I needed to visit Disney World again I would have no hesitation in staying at the Art of Animation Resort.

Overall, the Art of Animation resort is an awesome resort with plenty of amenities and activities to take advantage of on your Walt Disney World vacation. From swimming pools to an arcade to a gift shop and the food court, everything is available for guest use. The resort features great access to all the theme parks and Downtown Disney via the Disney Transport motor coaches.

We stayed in one of two finding memo themed buildings, which means we had the 2 bath, 1 bed/1 Murphy bed, condo-style accommodations, which is different from any of the value resorts at wdw resort. The room was fun, awesomely clean, and very comfortable. The beds slept well and the air conditioning worked great. Bathroom toilets were more like vacuum tubes, with power like none other, and the shower & bath tub were perfect and worked well.

During peak times of the day, the food court and bus terminal would be extremely busy and loud (particularly around breakfast time, 7-11am, and dinner time, 5-9pm) This would cause widespread chaos in getting food or visiting the gift shop.

Tips for future guests:
•arrive early for check-in; we had to stand in line 2 hours in order to check in due to computer issues, which prolonged and ruined most of our day of arrival.
• take advantage of the package vouchers you are sent by mail during your stay. They may include (but not limited to): 2 Free tickets to DisneyQuest, 2 Free mini-golf tickets, pass for 100 Free points to the Arcade.
• Purchase the Dining Plan! You will save a $$FORTUNE!$$

Spent three (3) nights at the Cars themed buildings with my husband, 3 year old daughter, sister-in-law, brother-in-law & 7 year old nephew. Disney out did them selves with the decor & overall feel of each theme. The quality was terrific & well suited for the kids. Each building had its own pool, however, the Nemo pool was bigger & had entertainment for the kids. The food center had various options & the check out lines weren't long at all. Most all cashiers were on duty & it was quick to pay, especially with a three year old in tow. The rooms were specious but somewhat cramped. My husband was uncomfortable with the beds; the bedroom bed is a queen & both the pull down & couch sofa bed were fulls. The suites were very clean & having two (2) full baths were a hit! Both bathrooms were separate & convenient. We would go back & try the other themed rooms!

We stayed one night at the resort before a Disney Cruise. We arrived At the resort and the lobby was packed; both check-in lines (regular and online) were at 30 and 10 people deep. After checking in, surprisingly no one offered to help us with our bags to our rooms. We stayed in a standard Ariel room. We also had a pack and play so with two adults and two kids we didn't have a lot of walking room because there was no space for storing suitcases or strollers. It was manageable for one night but I couldn't have done it for two. I had previously read the reviews about the Ariel buildings being far from pools and dining, very doable walk. There were also no towels at the pool. Bring your own from home or use the tiny rough ones from the hotel room. My one year old loved the fountains that sprayed up as you walked through them. Overall a fine stay but not convinced a Disney resort is worth the money, especial after a $40 breakfast for two adults and two kids.

Look, let's be honest, Disney never a fails to impress.
The Art of Animation is a brightly appointed hotel from top to bottom. The rooms are amazingly decorated and comfortable. We had 3 adults and 3 children in a family room and we were very comfortable despite my initial concerns. You definitely want to be in the Nemo section of the hotel as this is adjacent the large pool area, laundry, bar and the eating hall.
Onto the food. This was one portion of the hotel that I found somewhat disappointing. The food options for kids are fabulous but as an adult who enjoys a relative healthy meal, the options were somewhat limiting. Don't get me wrong there are healthy options but they are the same meals night after night and after a week this can get very boring. There is a coffee machine in the room which was great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Nemo section. By a unlimited refill cup and take it to all the parks and down...

There is not much to say except that if you are looking for a family resort in Disney World, this is it!
This Disney resort is huge, imaginative (as they all are), and extremely family friendly.
In early September, our family of 13 started our long awaited vacation at Disney. My husband and I have been planning this "Family Reunion" (even though we all live within 20 miles of each other) for months. With the help of a travel agent and ourselves, we were able to host each family (our son's and daughter's) for 6 days at the Art of Animation. Every room is a suite with a kitchenette, 2 bathrooms, private bedroom, and a living/sleeping room area for everyone else. There are 4 character complexes and in true Disney style, every complex was designed after Disney movies. Each family had a different quad so we could visit. Pools, food, shuttle, laundromat, and of course, a gift shop. Disney's new system was a bit confusing at first but we were all able to "get it". And of course, the free dining plan was in effect. TERRIFIC, BUSY,FUN week for all!!!

Room Tip: Anywhere! Little Mermaid complex is the farthest quad.
