“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Loved the Gaylord palms! Great staff and top service. My only complaint is the overpriced restaurants. $24 for a breakfast Buffett ..now really. I liked that we were just down the road from Disney too

This hotel is probably one of the nicest hotels in Florida! The whole hotel is an atrium with gorgeous gardens, a real salt water indoor pond, and so much more! We truly enjoyed walking around and admiring the place. I will definitely go back!!

Room Tip: Make sure you get an atrium view!!!

We visited Gaylord Palms over Christmas week 2012 to take part in several special activities being offered during the holiday season. We opened our day with the Shrek Feast character breakfast at Villa de Floora, then moved on to ICE! and cookie decorating with Gingy the Gingerbread man.

Our tickets for ICE! were timed entry, so we had a few minutes to pass between the time our breakfast and self-tour of the atrium had concluded and our ICE! entry window. So we shopped at the onsite Christmas store and got some great deals as all items in the store were reduced by 40%. There were some great deals to be had on Madagascar plush, as well as a multitude of Christmas ornaments (many with a distinctive Florida theme!).

ICE! was nothing short of amazing, and we all enjoyed walking through the exhibit. Rest assured it is COLD, though.....even for us hearty Canadians who are more than accustomed to the frosty temperatures.......so be sure to take mittens and hats in addition to the blue coats provided at the entry to the exhibit. You will be glad you did.

It took us about an hour to walk through and view each of the amazing ice carvings, with the longest wait of the tour at the ice slides. While most of the exhibit featured colourful scenes from Dreamwork's "Merry Madascar", at the end was a wonderful surprise: a full-sized rendition of the nativity scene in gorgeous clear ice under soft lighting. It was a breathtaking and fitting ending to this wonderful attraction.

Following our tour of ICE!, we decorated cookies with Gingy the Gingerbread Man for a nominal fee in the full-sized gingerbread house located adjacent to the ICE! entrance. Gingy himself made an appearance and we got some great photos as we were one of only a handful of guests taking part in this add-on.

Overall, a wonderful holiday experience at this gorgeous resort!

I stayed at the Gaylord Palms from Feb. 4 through the 8th on business. This is a very large property with everything you need on site. One of the standouts for me was the staff. Everyone I came in contact with as more than eager to help out. This is, however, a very busy property with multiple conventions going on every day. Although the food was very good in all of the onsite restaurants (and in room) it was also very pricey. This is a great location for business meetings but I think the average family of four would find the expense off the charts.

This was my first stay at a Gaylord property and I understand why some guests give it such a good rating. If you're looking to stay somewhere with things to do right on the property, this is the place for you. To me, it seems a bit like staying in a shopping mall, and I don't care much for shopping malls.

The most important aspect of a hotel to me is the quality of the sleeping rooms, and in this aspect, the Gaylord Palms was just average. The room itself was large and clean, but other than the beds and the desk chair, there was no place to sit. No easy chairs or loveseat, despite there being plenty of room for them in front of the windows. There was a mini-fridge in the dresser, but it wasn't stocked as a mini-bar. There was no information about the Orlando area, except for a couple of pages in the hotel binder. There was no door-hanger card for ordering breakfast. In other words, many of the things you'd typically expect to find in a hotel room were missing. But the thing that really stood out for me as a negative was that the bathroom area was cramped and wasn't separated from the rest of the room by a door. While the tub/shower and toilet area were in a room that could be closed off with a door, the sink area was open to the hallway. This really would have bothered me if I hadn't been traveling alone because there'd be no way to muffle the sound of running water or the hair dryer from anyone else in the room with you.

I didn't eat in any of the on-site hotels but did order breakfast through room service. The food came quickly and was good. All of the staff members I interacted with (front desk, concierge, housekeeping, room service, convenience store, security) were very friendly and helpful.

In summary, the stay was fine but nothing special, and I think I would try a different hotel the next time I travel to the Orlando area.

beautiful hotel, can be pricey in the restaurants and parking, but the pools and waterpark was just sooo fun for the kids! truly beautiful that you can stay in the hotel and enjoy the amenities :) we were upgraded to the penthouse before due to overbooking, which had ample space and amazing views.

Room Tip: we had a balcony view and it was so beautiful to have coffee in the morning! I have stayed in the pe...

My husband and I and our 3 children stayed in a suite here during our Disney vacation. This place is amazing. First the suite was huge and beautiful, and we loved the view of the atrium from our balcony. We had so much fun exploring the atrium, enjoying the gardens, koi pools, and watching the alligators being fed. The pool was amazing. Our kids could not get enough of the waterpark and the water was heated which was nice even if the weather outside was not perfectly warm. I can't wait to bring our baby back next year to play in the toddler section. Everyone treated us with the upmost of hospitality. We loved having many restaurant choices on site and the food was wonderful everywhere. The market cafe was convenient in the morning for coffee and bagels. We have stayed at the on-site Disney hotels for previous Disney vacations and the Gaylord is a top competitor!

(I've read the negative reviews on here and they scream "curmudgeon!" Not sure where those opinions are coming from as we had an excellent experience here).

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the atrium and enjoy that beautiful view. The higher rooms probably get l...
