We had one final day to spend in Orlando before heading to the beach, so we decided to take our two toddlers to Green Meadows Petting Farm. It's definitely a hands-on experience for the kiddos. I was amazed that we were able to catch chickens, ducks, milk cows and pet a variety of animals. My toddlers loved the pony ride, included in admission.
The staff that accompanied us were knowledgeable and accommodating to the children. They kept it fun and interesting and we spent just enough time at each animal area. We often got to feed the animals with food provided free of charge, which isn't always the case at some of those types of places. The staff was very nice and courteous the entire time we were there.
The train ride and hayride, included in your admission, are fun for the kids, but a bit confusing for the adults. It takes you by some meadows and fields then some private residences, which seemed strange to us. I assume they are the owners of the entire property and live there, but neither of the residences looked to be kept up well and was a strange contradiction to the petting farm.
You can rent a wagon with all-terrain wheels for the walk around the farm. I believe it is $3.00, but we used our double stroller to cart the kids around and it worked fine. Some of the more sandy areas were difficult to maneuver, but certainly not impossible. Definitely wear sneakers -- no sandals or flip flops.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I thought it was a little pricey. We were only there 2 hours. I justified the price because I want to assume the money is going to help the animals. I can't imagine taking care of all of those animals is cheap! Regardless, I would recommend anyone going to Orlando go to Green Meadows and especially if someone is looking for an alternative to Disney attractions.
