Having read a couple of reviews about this place, I was a tad concerned, there was no need to be, It was brilliant.
Arrival - Bit tricky for us first time Florida drivers but leave Interstate 4 at 64 and travel west on the 192, the first hotel you see is the Holiday inn on your left, then the Ramada, turn left immediately past it (dont worry if you miss it, you can U turn at the next gap), then u turn on that lane and pull into the service road for the 2 hotels on that block.
The hotel has one tower hotel and lots of low rise motel style room out back, this was where we stayed.
The reception staff are brilliant and parcels that I had sent there to me got to me with no fuss, remember to write GUEST and the arrival date as part of the address. Our room was at the furthest point from the main road and overlooked a plot of scrubland and was more than adequate, two of the most comfortable double beds, aircon, a utility room and toilet.
A fridge was provided along with a coffee machine and free coffee, milk and cookies from the 711 across the road made our first night wery easy.
First the bad stuff - theres not much of it and it's really very minor and more about America than the hotel.
We found the rooms to be quiet apart from late guests wheeling cases across the tiled floor upstairs which at first sounds like a helicopter.
Most American cars sound the horn when locked and they are right ourside your room, but they do it ONCE and you can only get 2 cars outside the room and one is yours right?
The rooms have huse windows filling the entire street wall, so unless you like putting on a show for the neighbours, you will have the curtains closed and the room lighting could be improved but you can still read and sleep.
No safe in the room, if needs be hire one at reception.
The good stuff
Rooms
Big enough for what you want them for and then some, 2 double beds, 3 chairs and a table, no wardrobe but enough hanging space in the bachk room, lots of drawers though, cable tv bedside and standard lamp.
Backroom is a washroom cum utility room with coffee and a fridge, plenty of towels and soap stuff, then a bath/shower with low, low toilet. Lots of hot water.
The rooms are set in 2 quads around 2 pools and back to back so half are facing the pool and half facing out. The top pool, nearest the hotel is warm like a bath, illuminated at night and is lovely, the bottom pool is sun heated and a bit cold when you first get in but therefore much quieter.
American kids like to swim in total silence, NOT, and the pools are really loud and noisy until 10.15 PM when they are cleared and locked off. We were there for spring break and oh boy was it loud but come 10.20 all the kids had gone and all the big kids had gone to the bar.
Ice machines are a plenty and do run out so you may have to walk around to get ice later in the day.
There is a laundry room which takes tokens vended on site, a games room and a great little pizza bar which is good value and fresh.
There is a restaurant and bar, a shop and all the usual stuff.
No broadband or WiFi so no working away (tee hee)
Triband phones get a 4 - 5 bar signal
The hotel is 15 minutes from the main disney site and runs a limited but free shuttle.
Within walking distance is Ponderosa steak house - Sizzler - 7/11 - Supermarkets - Chinese - Indian - Gas and about 300 guys selling Disney passes.
Disney passes...
Talk to the concierge in the lobby and tell him what you want and he'll give you great advice and two prices. One WITH a timeshare presentation and one without.
Against all the advice, we took the timeshare tour and saved £150 ($250) on our tickets for 6 day magic your way, 1 day 2 parks universal and a great dinner show.
The timeshare takes about 2.5 hours of your day 90 mins for the presentation, and getting there and back. All transport is provided as is a limited breakfast and this presentation has no hard sell, no pressure and is no burden at all, even a free games room for the kids. The apartments you will be shown are stunning and if you are the sort of person who goes on holiday to spend the time in a room looking at the view, buy one - the price is preety reasonable I guess, but who goes to Orlando to sit in the hotel all day?
Westgate Properties are an honest firm who also own the hotel you are staying in so in my opinion and that of my family, the presentation was a minor inconvenience compared to the extra passes we could afford.
Walmart is 8 miles away in Kissimmee (192 east) and has the cheapest disney souvenirs in the area and 4 miles away is Old Town, which isnt old but is fun and has the Orlando Harley Davidson Dealer and other stores, a fairground etc etc.
We loved our time at this hotel, it is a budget option and some of the guests reflect this but the security guys are pleasant and visible.
One final tip, we took an old Laptop with us and bought Streets and Trips on Ebay which was posted to the hotel, we had a cheap gps mouse too. This was invaluable with the constant road works and closed exit ramps in the area and cost just a few dollars. Even without the GPS it was most useful for planning trips to cape canaveral etc.
Hotel shows as Ramada Inn on Street and Trips (autoroute USA)
