We had reservations for this hotel in October 2004, but they had some sort of hurricane damage (although they still had plenty of guests checking in!), and they sent us to the hotel across the street for the same rate we booked (I believe the rate was around $40/night). As an apology, we were given a 2 nights free voucher for this hotel good for a year. I had never expected to stay in Orlando/Kissimmee again (I have no interest in theme parks, which is really the only thing to do in the area), but I ended up attending a weekend-long music event in Februrary 2005 and luckily used the voucher with no trouble!
This is a no-frills hotel, but everything appeared clean and well-maintained, which I feel is most important. The staff were always helpful (if they didn't have an answer, they would take the time to find someone who did!), and when I needed a handyman to fix the safety latch at 9 PM, he appeared in 10 minutes, absolutely the quickest service of that nature I've had at a hotel! Although I had a car, there were local bus stops nearby, and some 24 hour chain restaurants such as Denny's in walking distance. The surrounding area does have heavy car traffic, but is very pedestrian friendly. My room was quiet, even with a visiting youth football (soccer) team playing in an empty area of the parking lot.
My only complaint is the swamped breakfast area located in the lobby. I come to expect this sort of situation in hotels anymore, but with the amount of people in the small lobby each day, it may be a good decision for the hotel to expand this area a bit.
Overall, if I find myself needing a hotel in the Orlando area, I would definitely try to get a room at this hotel again. The rates (even without a free night voucher) are great for this heavy tourist area, and the room & staff quality went above my expectations for the price.
