“Close to disney”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the orange lake resort as a part of an RCI exchange. While this isn't the type of resort we usually stay at the rooms were very nice. We were given a villa in the west village, while it is the oldest part of the property it has been nicely renovated and was quite large. The only draw back to this type of resort is we had to drive to the pool and it was always quite crowded. The staff is very nice and quick to address any problems. The restaurants on site were very good and competitively priced.
Skip the time share presentation if you are not interested. It is not worth the time or what they offer you if you already know you don't want to buy with them. While they promise you a gift at the end of the presentation it was not what they promised us. They did however give us 60 dollars for our time but it wasent worth the layered sales we revived while we were in the presentation.

The grounds and facilities were impressive. We were strongly persuaded to do the "Tour", which ended up being a hard sell for time share. Much longer than the 1-1/2 hours they initially estimate...it was more like 3 hours. You may get an incentive out of it...we did, but if you really don't want a time share, just be persistent and let them know you are not interested. It will cut down your time with them. It's worth the stay if you can stomach the Time Share sales pitch.

Other than that, it was a great resort. There is plenty to do at this resort ($$).

They have 2 - 9 hole and 2 - 18 holes on the grounds. We golfed on the 2 - 18 hole courses and you will not be disappointed. The Reserve is not as well maintained as The Legends, but both have a great level of difficulty and enough challenges.

It is very close to the Disney parks and about 20-25 mins from SeaWorld and Universal.

Paying for anything recreational besides golf and tennis at this resort is a huge waste of money. The lazy river and hippo slide are a joke and not worth the money at all. The putt putt and mini golf courses are boring after 4 holes and unless you are in the west village you will be smelling rhino feces in the air all the time.

We were pleasantly surprised by our two bedroom, two bath unit. It was spacious and incredibly clean. The only negative about our stay was the overflowing big garbage container in hallway which the raccoons got into overnight. Would also have liked later check out. Check out was at 10 (11 or 12 is the norm.)

I love this place. This is our 4th holiday at Orange Lake and as soon as we step into our apartment it feels like home. The rooms are spotless and massive, the beds are so big and comfy and it has everything you could possibly need. A lot of people scoff at holiday ownership but for us it is something we have never regretted. We bought on our first visit and have upgraded since then. I've read discouraging reviews about the staff but we have only ever encountered friendly and extremely helpful staff on our visits. There is so much to do on the resort for all age groups and abilities, as much or as little as you want and the place is full of wildlife (and I don't just mean the holidaymakers!).

This is our second time staying at this property. Once again, we rented a 2 BR Villa which is very spacious, clean and has all the amenities that we needed for a comfortable stay. We stayed a total of nine nights and did not want to come home. From the balcony at our East Village Villa, we saw the fireworks from Disney every evening. Directly outside of the resort, we had the convenience of shopping at Publix, Target and Walgreens. If you are looking for clean rooms, beautiful pools with a lazy river and excellent golf within minutes of Disney, then don't hesitate in booking this resort. We are looking forward to coming back again next year.

Room Tip: If you want your kids to have instant access to the pools, then book your stay in River Island.
